What are YOUR thoughts of 900p resolution? Explain below!

You need to limit your fps to consume less battery with lower resolution because when you lower, the power you gain is used to make more frame so you consume almost the same in battery... Try to limite at 60 fps games that run both at 60 fps in 1080p and 900p, you are going to see some improvement in battery.

Because you kept your wattage the same... The benefit of lowering the resolution is so you can drop your wattage and get the same performance and a lower wattage. but if you lower the resolution and keep the wattage the same, you will get better performance not better battery.

Exactly as I thought. 100% up to wattage and setting it to turbo mode is going to allow the APU to boost up to 25w and a lower resolution isn't going to decrease power without some sort of frame rate cap or wattage cap

With unlimited FPS you are just exchanging resolution for frames. Limit that to something like 40, and then you will start to see the difference.

Interesting but not surprising in my view. It's useful to look at the performance within these games for more context. 900p translates to performance gains but this doesn't necessarily translate to a lower workload. Checking the realtime monitor could give you an indication of how hard the Ally is being pushed at 900p when playing with an uncapped/unlimited frame rate.

The real trick to getting the most out of the Ally at 900p in battery mode is to play at 120hz with a frame rate cap. This is game dependent but I typically go for 60-75fps. This way it looks and feels smooth while conserving energy that may have been used to deliver even higher frame rates. This is where the benefit of a lower resolution comes in, it should be able to get these target frame rates using less power.

I found the following the best for me. Auto tdp with 60 fps as goal, 1600x900 res .bat file. max tdp 18 watt, RSR to scale it to 1080p and Turbo profile for the fan curves. There maybe some redundancy but that gets me best mix of battery, performance and most important now that bios got updated to 323, fan noise.

That’s normal and you might even get lower time with 900p coz the cpu is getting even more stressed. if you want to improve battery life you need to use an fps limiter

If it wat was a nvidia chip. You could have used 540p dlss to 1080p.

Quite honestly fsr destroys the image quality too much below 1080p.

I would have loved to see the switch being a stand alone pc. Because you can still go at 360p and upscale it to 720p

i think the point you play on lower resolution is so you can play at lower tdp with the same performance. since it has small screen (compared to TV) lower resolution still looks sharp enough.

does it make the difference if you change the windows resolution to 900p?

you should run a 3D mark test, because playing a game could be different if you only walk arround or that you are in combat and lot's of graphics appears etc. So it's difficult but I also think if 900P is lesser than the 1080P is could be also a recalculation is size which cost more power.

Did you change the resolution in the rog ally too? not just in the game.

900p has a secret for another device. If you have a 4k Gamer pro. That minimum 900p 60fps will upscale to real 4k 60fps on your 4k TV. I highly recommend buying one if you're able to connect that to a 4k TV.

It would be interesting if you set an autotdp to maintain 30fps (or 60fps) at 1080p and 900p.

Try this again with readon chill set to 30 fps

stephenj

you need to limit the frame rate to make this a fair test
in 900p you would be hitting more fps more of a power consumption so the test is a bit of a mismatch

TheMagicOreo

This test is unfortunately invalid. because the resolution was lowered, 900p gave more fps, which ultimately used more battery life. if fps is set to 60 for both resolutions, this will give a more realistic test.

these 3 games only hold 20minutes++ with 50% battery?

but you didn't lower the wattage 😂
