I’m an African-American DJ and I was setting up to play for a special event at a local bar. I said hello to the barman (bartender) and was surprised to hear an eastern European accent here in North Carolina (I’m originally from Chicago). When he said that he was from Croatia, I said, “Oh, I have something for you” and played this song. His eyes filled with tears and he took a book from under the counter and showed me pictures from his beautiful country. It was a very nice moment and it showed how music can connect people from different backgrounds.
