How to build a Chladni plate

After seeing multiple videos of people building Chladni plates I decided to make one myself. I was surprised by the reaction it had to some of the songs I decided to play.

Noise (random frequencies) will produce random distribution: lots of sand particles going to wherever they are bounced.
Every fixed object has a resonant frequency, eg. When you flick a wine glass the pure tone you hear is that freq..
so, this Teflon pizza tray also has its main frequency: it’s fundamental. After that? It will have a series of extra (some quite strong, some a bit weaker) frequencies where it will respond. It is the Chladni plate (named after Mr Chladni) that vibrates and sends the particles into an organised shape/pattern.
It makes compulsive viewing and a desire to experiment and make your own. Thanks for sharing. By the way, once you generate higher than 20, 000Hz we can no longer hear the pitch. (Ultrasonic) Hifu is a cancer treatment, can bust certain kidney stones and of you get the frequency spot on you can image inside the soft tissue and see your unborn baby. Not recommended at home.

Fantastic!!! Thank youuu. I bought speakers from the auction house for £4.00 in the hope to build a rig. Thanks again :)

I think the lip on the plate constrained the number of different patterns available. I am using a square piece of 1/16" thick steel plate, painted black. I use salt because it is lighter than sand and reacts more quickly to an input. And I am using a Dayton Audio surface exciter/transducer from Parts Express. I'm teaching a class on sound and acoustics. Also, just wanted to say to some of your commentators: when you use music, the notes and sounds within the music change quickly and constantly. A Cladni plate is only supposed to display standing waves, which take a little time to form a pattern. You can use two or three pure (sine wave) tones at the same time, as long as they don't instantly disappear because they are part of a song. By the way, Carlos, LOL, dude! (end of vid)

that was amazing, thank you so much. Im currently making an art project using Cymatics and this helped me out with how to make the sculpture

I feel like if you would have put spongy type rubber washers in between the plate and the bolt and the Easter egg you probably would have ended up with much cleaner results. But this is still pretty damn cool. I think I'm going to build one myself

When he pulled out the Easter egg, I knew this was going to be some MacGyver s##t 😂

amazing how the frequencies matched the DMT machine elves in the background

Dude that punchline at the end was pretty funny 🤣

When you started playing the Music it gave out Destructive Interference, or Disruptive Frequency, which is Negative Sound Incubation... the reason why, is because the Music you played was in A440hz.. And virtually all the Music Industry is tuned to that Frequency.. and there is an even darker reason behind why.. 😳 I Like your little example and project anyway.. cool and simple. 👽👍

Bro you just made me realize about the vibration force, if you unlevel the vibration force tend to go to the other side, didn't taught about this

Great Video! Do we know if the Chaldini plate works as well with commercial music and not just sin waves? do we have to route specifically tonal instruments to this plate for it to work

Hey man would really like to know what materials you used and how much it'd cost?
