Costco Artika Skylight LED Panel Light Review and Install

Recently purchased and installed the Artika Skylight flat/flush-mount LED light from Costco. This was replacing an old fluorescent tube light in our Airbnb's kitchen that was a haven for stray flies. The install is pretty straightforward though I feel like it could have been better with a bigger mounting plate and more pre-drilled holes in the mounting plate to insure lining up with a stud was possible.

This is Costco Product # 1229097 and purchased for $49.99

Comparable lights were starting at $99 from Home Depot and $75 from Lowes.

60 something years old Grandma here. I used your video to install 3 of these lights. I found the information was exactly what I needed. We replaced 30 year old fluorescent light fixtures in the basement. It's so bright now! Thanks for your help!

Instead of a longer bracket to keep the ends from coming away from the ceiling as I have experienced, use self stick Velcro on the fixture and ceiling for a snug fit or two-way foam tape.

Fair warning! If you have an older home like me and some of the existing lights do not have a junction box, the flat design makes it extremely difficult to mount as you cannot tuck the wires away.

Just installed same one from Costco, and now they have 6 located tabs instead of 4. The base plate is ~24" long.

I just installed 2 of these and after an hour of frustrations, trying to re-bend the 4 hooks to just the right spot, both are still sagging just over a quarter of an inch on one side. I'm glad I found your video to confirm I didn't install it wrong--it's just a poor design.

Oh well, I guess we get what we paid for. I'm still happy enough with them for $50 apiece.

Thanks for the vid. Agree its not really needed inside the house, I'm putting one in my garage solely because of the flies issue you mentioned. I don't have that issue inside my house so can stick to just doing LED tubes there. Agree about the flatness issue, ceiling might not be flat but the bracket design isn't wide enough to ensure the fixture doesn't bend weeks/months down the road. Seems like a design defect.

Nice, but I really dislike "daylight" vs a softer light for the kitchen... I uninstalled something similar because the light was too harsh for the indoors

The first one I installed failed after about 30 hours of use. The mounting system is crap for such a long fixture, the ends sag away from the ceiling as everyone else has found. Going to return the defective one and the other three I haven't installed yet.

Thank you for your video, I was going join Costco to be able to buy the light, but after you mentioned the sagging I think I will buy the Homedepot with the longer base plate.

I picked up several of these flat led 1x4 lights from lowes on 9/1/2021 on clearance. they were $27 each. Leds' are only a little bit more effcient than the fluorescents. So you are not saving 4x more on electricity. you are using a dimmer led light is mostly why you are saving on electricity.

I like the speeded up video. I have these lights and agree the center attachment mount is a poor design. Another issue is your ceiling looks perfectly flat but most likely isn’t. The way these lights mount magnifies that. I still like the looks of these lights regardless.
