Bugler's Holiday - Brass Quintet

Bugler’s Holiday (1954) is one of composer Leroy Anderson's most popular works. Originally scored for trumpet trio and orchestra, it has been performed by groups of nearly every instrument imaginable, often to great comic effect. This brass quintet version is arranged by Bob Driggs. As a tuba player himself, Bob has thoughtfully included the lower brass with some challenging riffs! As I saw these phrases approach I was thinking, "Thank goodness my trombone has valves!"

This is my last Christmas themed brass video for the year. It's been a fantastic personal challenge which I hope to continue in 2019. Thanks to everyone who's been watching, encouraging, and humouring my brass addiction! Happy holidays all.

Instrumentation: 3 Trumpets, Trombone, Tuba (played on my flugelhorn down two octaves in the video).

Oh my...I am all smiles for this performance. Your playing is great, but even more important, your feisty personality shows through. You are right about the valve trombone being necessary for that part. Easy for me to write, not so easy for you to play...but you set the benchmark for all future performances! Well done!

HOLY SH*T!! The other valve trombone player!! There can be only two. I have one inherited from my Grandfather and the story goes that it was purchased from a carnival musician during the depression... GREAT and fun to watch!

If you have ever been at least an average trumpet player, then you know just how hard any one of these trumpet parts are to play. Let alone all three. Now as this average trumpet player, forget the lower tone instruments. Obviously this young lady is far beyond average!!!

I am marveled with your talent.
Isn’t wonderful we have such great technology that you could do this.
I did this very crudely back in the sixties using 2 reel to reel tape recorders back in the 1960’s with my trumpet, alto sax, tenor banjo & accordion.
Thank you for bringing back memories and the work it took to make this wonderful video.

That was FANTASTIC!!! Leroy Anderson was one of the most BRILLIANT composers EVER, and you HAVE to be a HOT HORN PLAYER to even THINK about recreating ANY of his masterpieces, and YOU KILLED IT!!! I'm SURE Leroy's LISTENING and GRINNING EAR TO EAR!!! When he found out it was a WOMAN playing ALL OF THE PARTS, his wings got a foot longer!!! INSPIRATION!!!

Extremely cool! One of the best videos I've seen on YouTube 😁👍 you are very talented to be able to switch from trumpet to low brass. I think you would be a very fun person to play with 😉

Miss Landers is right up there with the best trumpet players ever .
I knew David O'Neill personally when we both played trumpet in the same Drum Corps together in the 1960's and 1970's, Washington Park Drum Corps in Meriden, Connecticut .

This is a very busy musical piece and the three trumpeters only had a 5-second rest at about 1:09. But they still managed to be super-entertaining during the break. Not only was the performance just amazing, there is also the comedy genius!
