Just come across your video on YouTube. I'm the son of Eric Tingey who owned the furniture and hardware store in Hatfield. I went back there four months ago. It was a different place.

Great to look back at the very old Hatfield. I was born 1970 and grew up in Hatfield.

It's when you leave a home community and return a few years later and see the changes: that's what hits you hard!

Wow! We moved to Hatfield, on to the new Oxlease estate, when I was 4 years old in 1958. I left around 1973. I went to Broad Oaks school. I recognise almost every image in your video and know almost every place you sing about. I well remember them building the new town centre and pulling half the old town down in the name of progress. Great video.
Things that immediately spring to mind...
Church's toy shop
Gray's garage
Station buffet
Hatfield park
414 bus
oh and a lot more...

I think this is a great way of recording the history of ones town in their own words and lifetime. I wished I had bthought of doing the same for my home town of Hertford.

Brilliant vid and song. I loved my childhood in Hatfield. Was born there in 1955 and left in 1968. I was born at 17 Hazeldene Meadows, and in 1963 we moved to 10 Lodge Drive, The Ryde estate. We then moved to St. Albans.

Was great once, such as WGC was, yet the government screwed it up like everything else.
I moved to Australia and haven't been back for over 20 years, rather the memories stay as they are.
Great video and thanks.

Went to uni in Hatfield. Finished last year
I barely recognise any of your photos. Pretty much only just some of those shops and what is now the Municipal Court building

It's such a dingy town now, looks like it's lost all of its character.

Cycle route to St Albans is good though, and the nature reserve where the runway was is nice. Lots of open space, dogs on the weekends.

Building The Tunnel and the shutting of De Havilland was the turning point I think

My Nan lived in Stonecross Road much of my childhood spent there, I come from The Pearman family who were apparently well known back in the day!
