My grandfather at 35 yrs old joined the Marine Corp. in 1944. He was among those in the first wave to land on the black sand beach on Iwo Jima. He watched his best childhood friend get shot immediately between the eyes before he could get off the beach. He saw the original flag raising on Mt. Suribachi, . He spent a month crawling on his belly fighting for the noble ideals of the United States of America. He was one of the few to survive. He was one of the last men off the island. He earned a Purple Heart. If he had lived long to see what Trump and the Republicans have made America now, I know he would immediately wretch his guts out. This is not what he heroically almost died for.
