#71 Walrus Audio - Mako Series R1: High Fidelity Stereo Reverb

Anyone who knows me well enough, knows I fell in love with the Mako Series D1 instantly and use that thing all the time, so as you can imagine my anticipation of the inevitable R1 was was paramount. And I am not dissapointed! R1 is everything I hoped and more, from typical staples through to odd and otherworldly verbs, a broad modulation circuit, a Slow Gear style swell on the wet AND dry signal, momentary or latching sustain and variable stereo width saveable per preset... you might say Walrus Audio made a list of all the things a reverb should have and made it a reality. Well done lads. Sit back and enjoy!

I'm in all the way, even to the patch cables, who makes those, clean looks!

Man, I cant tell if I really like the pedal or if I just like the playing you are putting through it. I really dig the guitar/piano/synth stuff. Really nice. The pedal sounds gorgeous.

wonderful demo, and very nice to hear it on some synths. I feel like both the d1 and hopefully now r1 are perfect for the synth crowd

EDIT: Fixed bypass switch delay by changing bypass mode in pedal setup menu.

Great demo! I enjoy how walrus makes more of a musical tool than a spacial approximation. What drives me nuts about this one is the slight cut out in sound any time the left switch is triggered. Even on 1.11. Its very noticeable on the one I'm trying if I have other reverbs or delays going on.

This was the video that finally made me pull the trigger on the Mako series. Ordered the D1, R1, and ACS1 for a fun little mini board! Should be here tomorrow and I'm watching this again just to vicariously live through you until it arrives.

man, i was real close to saying this pedal was not doing it for me cause it’s so difficult to program, but i guess i just gotta put more work into it like you did. sounds awesome!

This is like the space shuttle of reverbs. I can’t understand it, but I’d sure like to own one!

man I'm in the market for a good reverb right now, and seriously cannot decide! So many options with the Big Sky, Empress Reverb, Tempus, Dark Worlds, SLO and this guy! I was set on the GFI ST for awhile but I've noticed in a lot of videos you hear the dry sound unaffected under a lot of the verbs, and it's a sharp difference to me. Feels weird hearing the dry guitar sound with a sheen beautiful verb hovering over it, I like being able to hear the entire sound together get effected by the reverb.

You do such a great job on these videos! I never miss any of them. I'm really interested in how this reverb sounds quality wise compared to the verbs on similar price ranged pedals like the Ventris and Boss RV-500 and even the reverbs in something like the Eventide H9 or the Specular Tempus. I would say genre wise if that makes a difference in your thoughts - ambient, alternative rock and pop for primary genres I am most interested in. I currently have an h9 max as my only unit that can do reverb. I know... blashphemy - only one reverb! :)

Excellent demo and this sound.... Such a precise reverb. I wonder which video editing software you've used for it.
Thanks, very artistic approach.

So here I am again!...sitting on the fence regarding this pedal. I watch your demo over and over cos it's so sublime and calming. So I watch other videos of this pedal and none of them capture the warmth or magnitude of this pedal like your demo does. I have had two SA ventris which sound great but both were glitchy so I sent them back!

would you mind telling me your set up please as your sound is so damn good!

I own the R1 and also a neunaber immerse mk1. Tbh, the R1 is great but its soooo/toooo much, I mainly use the R1 when I want to have some over the top stuff but 80% of the time I just use my immerse. R1 is not for everyone, it can be over the top, it can also do some super unique stuff no other pedals can do. After months of thinking and owning it, I will keep it on my main board :)

Love everything about your video. Such cool imagery, great playing and that Reverb is sublime!
How do you power the R1 as I see it doesn't come with a power supply and does the R1 have a reverse reverb?

I have a Walrus Audio Slo and Blue Sky for verbs atm and absolutely love my Slo and was curious if this could replace my blue sky. I also have a T-Rex replicator Jr analog tape delay and walrus audio bellwether analog delay which sound amazing. Instead of running both delays in reverbs I go blue sky into bellwether into tape delay into Slo verb with VP Jr volume behind it all (and others in the chain as well) but for ambient this combo works excellent. I then run out of all of that into a mesa v-twin tube preamp pedal to give it that console kinda sound running all this with the 4cm using George L's. I'm gonna make a new channel with me playing so be on the lookout if you see that rig lol. Great playing and great review though. Thanks for sharing! Also great job with the video editing. 👍🏼
