It’s not always how it looks from the outside, sometimes it’s way better, sometimes it’s way harder, and sometimes people don’t realize why we all do this to begin with. Here’s what a few of the people in the thick of it think about drifting.

Tell us what you think in the comments.

I stand with Jimmy on all this, keep drifting fun. Seeing 10-15 yo D1GP footage with 4-500hp cars looks way more fun than modern competitions. More variety, let's personality shine more.

2 things from this video: Odi is on a higher level than everyone else. And Rome is my new favorite driver. 😄

Chelsea is a real ambassador of the sport, thank you for providing insights and different opinions.
I would love to see you cover different regions of drifting as you did in japan. I'm sure you have a big european audience aswell.

I would love to see a dicussion about the different aspects of european and american drifting (Styles, Competition, cars, etc.)

Crazy how the drivers are so wholesome but when you look at the FD chat the fanbase seems so toxic

TJ mentioning essentially spec drifting is a neat concept. Like spec Miata drifting or some other platform that everyone has and power and tires are regulated would be interesting.

"As soon as the sim kids can afford drift cars, we're all screwed"

I'm not a child, just a broke adult with a dream, if my skills in the sim transfer to irl, I'm going to be a problem.

Drifted for 7 years but been out of it for almost 4 years now after starting a family. This video gave me goosebumps just taking me back to all the memories and the feeling drifting gives you. All up in the feels 😢

Imagine a FD World Cup. The best drivers from each country competing for the world title, the ultimate bragging title

The very core of drifting is really just to have fun, I think every single fan thought at some point that all they wanted to do from now on was to become a pro driver, I sure did. But now I look at drifting the same way I’d look at surfing, I just want to take my board, catch some good waves with the bros and enjoy it

Jeff Jones' point around 13 minutes in about keeping it simple takes me back to Adam LZ's Legends car experiment... that would be a super inexpensive way for people to get into drifting. Cheap cars, a suspension kit could be a spec setup, spec tires, just find a way to keep engine modifications under control and you could build one of those for very little money out of your garage. I think a Legends support class would be a hit if it could be worked out.

FD's biggest problem is actually geographical. Japan and European events are so much closer to each other that it drastically reduces operating costs for teams. It's not just the distance of the travel, but the time, and these smaller countries with events so much closer together can achieve such better levels of driving as events are far less of a commitment, but also are far more affordable. This helps to allow the skill to boil to the top over the budget. It's still expensive, but the biggest cost of FD is hauling a team around the country, feeding and housing them, only to get a single 23 second run and go home.

Subsidizing travel costs for teams is a great partial step, but breaking the series up to more of an allstar format with the 4 corners of north america would feed a great final battle and may also drag in more Canadian and Mexican competitors, while making the skill pool from the US boil the true talent to the top at a lower cost. This all should help in making the entertainment of FD better, and improving it's current damaged reputation.

As for a spec series, tire sizes should be down in the 225 range to really bring the power levels down. 265 is unreasonable and bigger than the current ProSpec tire. Currently ProSpec is so close to Pro that it's hard for fans to even differentiate them, and competitors are now double dipping as a strategy because they're basically the same series from a technical perspective.

Spec classes would be a good way to let the cream rise, and then you still have semi-unlimited events like FD and plain fun gatherings like LZ's world tour. More exposure out there in the real world is the key to fan-based growth and more big sponsorships for the pros. Thx Chelsea for all the interesting interviews!

Dope idea Chelsea, way to enrichen the drift culture by showing an inside look at what is truly rewarding about sliding a car sideways. I think the American drift scene still has a lot of room to grow if people can relate to the driver's like this on a grassroots level.

I think every event should start with Matt field vs a Sorensen. It just feels like the quickest option to get them out of FD
