I just started budgeting 2 years ago and adhere to a zero based budgeting. It works best for me because I'm paying off almost 6 figures of non-mortgage debt and keeping an emergency fund. I'm glad that you're sharing budgeting tips now because it's a skill I wish I learned about a lot earlier.

Thank you so much for making this. They don’t teach this in American schools and I really wish they did

I have simple rule that works for me. 50/50.
50% of whatever i earn i get to spend in any way i wish.
50% is not touched at all unless its for investment. Defined as things that will make me more money, or at least have strong potential to do so. Meaning car payment, new furniture or anything like that is not in this category. It goes in first 50%.

Dang, I wish my rent could be $700. I'm living in the smallest apartment I can in my town.

Jokes on you. I applied that, then realized I just need a better paying job. Now, I don't care about my budget and I fund all my needs, all my wants and have a adequate sum of savings per month. You don't need this, you are just poor. The only thing I regret is trying to implement economic logic on a joke salary.
