In 2013 or 14, when my 12 year younger little brother was only 12-13 visited from out of state for his summer vacation, I played him this song as he said he had no interest in music. I explained to him the story and music as he listened. We've since gone to a half dozens shows since 2018 when he moved back to my area for college and he had his 3rd live show as a guitarist yesterday. All from riding in the backseat of my car listening to Count of Tuscany one summer afternoon.

This is one of the greatest rock compositions ever. We all know it - that's why we're here. The arrangement, the guitar solos, the gorgeous keyboard flourishes, the soaring vocal finale. But at 18:11 into Petrucci's final solo, can we all please stand for the national anthem that is John Myung ? He is an absolute tank, and the part he plays here is as beautiful as anything else in the song. He is this band's glue.

My life is so much richer for having discovered this band over 20 years ago.
