How much does it cost to become an architect? 💰 Things to know before it's too late

We can all reminisce about that moment that made us realize, “I want to be an architect.” Although the reason itself can be vastly different from others, for example, I loved the idea of a home and had a weird fixation on HGTV. And while this might not be available to my international readers, think about any channel that shows off a house, house hunting, or travel destinations and seeing all the different architectural qualities of a place. I’m sure that same excitement at the thought of designing buildings and spaces for people is what pulls others into this profession as it did for me.

But what about the cost of becoming one? While big-ticket items like tuition are commonly discussed, there are many mysterious costs associated with becoming an architect that you may not know! Today’s article will be focusing on 5 large topics that can be the gatekeeper for those unable to pursue and sustain this field. Architecture is a privileged field and unfortunately not very accessible to many, meaning less diversity of students – less diversity of architecture.

almost finishing up my b.arch there's a lot more fees to get licensed than i normally thought. then there are the things that aren't required but are near impossible to go without such as membership fees to AIA and stuff.

Great Video! Canada has recently added students to their Internship program for obtaining hours. It's the same process as an intern architect for their supervising and mentor architects. Just been implemented in Ontario, but I am unsure about the rest of Canada as of now. I suggest looking at each of the provincial associations, as they vary slightly in the region you plan on obtaining your license. Otherwise, absolutely amazing information is given in the video!

In Zurich ETH (switzerland) its 650$
/semester + 200-1500.- for models/books/trips.

Architecture is not a "saved" profession in switzerland. So you don't need a license, not even study to be a practicing architect. But most (in the bigger cities) have a degree.

When u have a degree you can sign up for the architect assosication. Which is a letter and 150$/year
