2004 Lexus ES 330 - Whining noise when accelerating

preview_player
Показать описание
An example of the whining noise my car makes when it accelerates from its lowest gear. If I only slow to about 15mph, so that there is no downshift to the lowest gear, this noise doesn't happen.

Check power steering fluid and transmission fluid

All jokes aside it seems to have an audible change when the car shifts. I would say you're very low on transmission fluid.. if it makes the sound in nuetural or park(give it a Rev to 3k rpm) and the noise stops its in the transmission. I would change the fluids or add more.

It’s the power steering fluid, it happens on mine all the time.

Mine was making this noise, had a power steering leak and had to get a new pump and fix the leak. Still makes the noise because I deprived the system of oil when driving it, but now it is basically silent.

That's what happens when you raise spoiled cars. They whine.

My Avalon used to make the same noise when accelerating.. the issue was transmission related.

Mine was making a similar noise and mine turned out to be the alternator bearing

Check underneath the car for fluid leaks and track it down. or Take it to a professional.

My Lexus recently started doing that not as badly tho. I checked the fluid and it’s full a bit past the hot line. But it doesn’t look like the proper fluid that should be in there(ATF). The fluid that’s currently in there is slightly brown. PS i was moving the steering wheel and noticed no fluid movement from the reservoir.

Power steering pump is what you want it to be I could be at oil pump and side of the transmission in that case you’re SOL

Sounds like it needs schedule maintenance.
I can hear the muffle bearings. They sound dry.

Rack and pinion has no lube on it.
Transmission shifts good and has oil?
Power steering fluid and pump good?

FYI, I found an awesome mechanic who finally figured it out. First, the power steering pump was dead. We replaced it and the line, easy enough.

But the real odd thing was the noise persisted. It only happened at acceleration and died out when the transmission shifted. It turns out that the dealer who sold me the car did some shoddy work to fix some stuff that they "forgot to do" before they sold it to me (that's a long story), and when they did so they didn't reattach an arm/bracket between the back of the engine and the firewall to secure the engine. That arm was vibrating like crazy when the engine was on low gear and high torque, and it would hit against the firewall creating that odd noise. The arm couldn't be reattached because the engine had worn the mounts badly. Replaced the mounts, the arm in the back of the engine was reattached, now it sounds wonderful.

P.S. I will let everyone I know to avoid that dealer like the plague.
