A few things I’ll give Colors Ultimate credit for is being able to customize your controls (although it wasn’t really necessary) and customize Sonic’s accessories and boost

Remaster aside, it's still the same sonic colors we know and love. Fun fact, this remaster was my first time owning, and playing colors, as I've never played it on the wii. I loved it.

Colours ultimate is a bad remaster but i didnt have the og wii version so it did work for me

Things i hoped colors ultimate would do:

1- Restore Acts (ex: Sweet Mountain Act 1 & 2 being one level).

2- If not restored then, rearrange act order (ex: Aquarium Park Act 1 into Act 4, we can tell it was a single act).

3- Make minigames optional (ex: Tropical Resort Act 4 and other acts that just reuse level design or are just auto-scrollers).

4- Replace the base Colors (wii) minigames with Colors (DS) acts (would improve stage quality).

5- Overhaul gameland by replacing the original levels with the minigames from colors Wii and DS (some minigames suck but they are still leagues ahead of whatever levels gameland has).

6- Actually improve the wii graphics while giving you the option of playing with the original look (instead of forcing you to have seizures).

Needless to say i was disappointed yet again.

To give the remaster some credit, you can change the controls and button mapping. Which is something the original game couldn’t do. And some of the new stage remixes were pretty solid. Terminal Velocity Act 1 was one of my favorite remixes.

While I’m not a fan of Colors(Both Wii and Ultimate) it is nice to see this game finally get off the Wii and accessible to people who don’t use Nintendo consoles. But clearly this remaster needed better execution and more time to be fully developed. (Also, kinda wish they added Colors DS as some sort of bonus, so we can play the superior version of Colors).

I just played and finished the game yesterday on my PS5 as the game was on PS Plus monthly and honestly I had a bit more fun than I thought I would. I think the increase from 30 to 60fps really helped especially since I first experienced the remaster on Switch which was (and still is) rough around the edges. In fact it's quite appalling that there are still bugs in the game that didn't exist in the Wii version.

I like the glitch in Sonic Colors where Sonic randomly gets glowing purple shoes rather than the normal ones

Sonic Colors on Wii ran at 480i, it really did look like a bad DVD Recording

Sonic Colors was my first Sonic game on the Wii, only reason I got the switch version is because I don't have my Wii anymore 😢

I have a recording on Switch showing an example of how broken the game really is.
I forgot what act, but on Planet Wisp, there are moving platforms with spikes on half of them that do not move in sync with the platforms and soft-locked me from progressing.
The platform moves and then the spikes with next to no spacing to get through even while trying to damage boost through them.

I still own the Wii and the DS version from when the game first came out. The game does look better overall but it’s the bloom that holds it back. It’s a remaster not a remake so they already limited how good they could make it.

My biggest disappointment was despite knowing it was going to be a remaster they could have at least added the wisps from the ds version and the wisp mother final boss to this game. Would have loved to see them in 3d graphic’s.
