Fuel Injection Systems in SI Engines | Skill-Lync
Показать описание
Internal Combustion Engines are one of the best inventions of mankind. But, there will always be a chance for improvements, right?
Over the years, several improvisations have been made in the fuel supply system of engines to enhance their performance.
In this video, we have explained about the most efficient and effective fuel supply system, that is, Electronically controlled Fuel Injection Systems in SI engines.
Older gasoline engines used carburettors for supplying air-fuel mixture. But, those carburettors had several disadvantages which eventually created a need for the development of fuel injection systems.
Fuel injection systems use an electronic pump for supplying fuel at a higher pressure. High-pressure injection results in better performance increased power and lower emissions.
Based on the location of injectors, the fuel injection system can be classified into two types:
1. The single-point fuel injection system
2. The multi-point fuel injection system
In a single-point injection system, one or two injectors are placed in a centralised location. Because of this, this system failed to supply an equal amount of fuel to all cylinders in multi-cylinder engines. Hence, multipoint fuel injection(MPFI) systems were developed.
The MPFI system is almost similar to CRDI. Here, each cylinder is provided with an individual injector and so it rectifies the aforementioned problem. It can also be categorised into two types based on the main signal input to the ECU:
1. D- MPFI system
2.L-MPFI system
If the fuel is sprayed near the intake port or manifold, then it is said to be an indirect fuel injection system.
If the fuel is sprayed directly into the combustion chamber, then it is said to be a direct fuel injection system.
Gasoline direct injection system is superior over the indirect injection system in so many ways.
