Hurting CUNY Means Hurting Our Recovery

CUNY is turning its back on its lowest-paid workers and New York’s most vulnerable communities.

CUNY colleges have announced planned layoffs of thousands of CUNY adjuncts and other part-time employees, in anticipation of State budget cuts caused by the COVID-19 Recession. But the University has millions of dollars in federal stimulus money and reserves that should be used to save jobs. Additional federal stimulus, increased State tax on the rich and college cost-savings can also save jobs.

Adjuncts teach more than half the courses at CUNY. They need jobs and health insurance to survive, especially now during this crisis. CUNY students will not have access to classes they need to graduate without the courses taught by adjuncts.
