At 78, David Gilmour Finally Confirms WHY Roger Waters DESTROYED Pink Floyd

Do you know that Pink Floyd is widely regarded as one of the most successful bands of all time and has sold more than 250 million records worldwide? Yes, thats true, but whats crazy is that this band has achieved many awards and has made a lot of money even though its members have consistently been in conflict with each other, and a lot of this has been extremely public. In order to make any band, business, or society successful, it is often considered important for its members to be united, but this is not the case with Pink Floyd.
The two driving forces of the group—David Gilmour, the guitarist, and Roger Waters, the former primary lyricist—have had some pretty aggressive disagreements, tensions, and cold wars ever since they have been working together. This also led to Roger quitting the band in 1985. But after the first few negative encounters that were made public, Gilmour too took action and finally broke his silence, and this was probably driven by the need to clarify his position and make sure that the masses have access to both sides of the story.

This is not an accurate portrayal of what happened. The "trouble" did not start with Gilmour joining.

Can't forgive Waters for his part in the firing of Richard Wright in 1979. Wright's work was an important element in the Pink Floyd sound.

Roger Waters did not 'DESTROY Pink Floyd' and it carried on for a good few years under Gilmore quite successfully. They are both geniuses in their own ways and together have created many masterpieces. It's just a pity they couldn't have carried it on, but these things happen in the rock world, and the main thing is that they have provided us with incredible music over the years.

All bands have conflicts, studioitus, digs at each other. When all is said and done, these guys made some of the best albums ever.

The fact that Mason and Wright remained close to Gilmour speaks volumes about the dynamics within the band. Still, I'm sad that they couldn't resolve their differences and continue to create awesome PF music together.

AND, this said NOTHING revelatory or that hasn't been rehashed to death. You NEVER really addressed what the headline intimated. Won't be visiting your channel again.

Roger Water was not merely the lyricist of Pink Floyd. He composed most of the great music of the band too. He was also the mind behind the concepts in Pink Floyd albums.

I dont think Waters could make a album like "The Division Bell". Plus, Ive always been in Gilmours "easy going" camp and irritated by Waters opinions and politics.

I think Waters was leaning towards the political, and Gilmour wanted to concentrate on the music and how the band could continue making the beautiful music without delving into the political.

I have been a Pink Floyd fan more than 50 years now., and am well versed in the enmity between Roger and David, or Roger and the rest of the band. This resulted in law suits, etc over the years. What remains constant though, is the validity of their music. It will be always present if you have recordings of their awesome music. I had the great thrill of seeing them live twice in 1987 and 1994 without Roger. The shows were simply amazing both times. Also saw Roger live once as well, and his show was also very good. I don't care to go into all the politics and discord over the split up and the aftermath, it doesn't matter. What does matter is that all of their music and live videos reflect the raw talent of all of Pink Floyd's members, will always have a place in my consciencness. Including most of the solo albums that have been released. Great music, great times.

Firing Wright was a large part of the reason for the issues, but there are a lot more. Roger was not allowing ideas from other members, the albums he was trying to make where largely concept albums so any ideas that the other members tried to introduce that didn't fit his concept were automatically turned down. There were money reasons as well, Rogers increasing domination of the creative process meant the other members of the band didn't get nearly as much credit for collaborative effort meaning the got a much smaller piece of the profits. One of the biggest rifts on the topic of money was because Waters added the "pigs on the wing pt 1/2" to the animals album at the 12th hour and without consulting the other members. Because those two songs were entirely written and performed by Waters it made a huge dent in how much of a piece of the revenue the other three member received for the totality of the album.

so For the people that defend Waters, In my opinion from everything i have read on the topic, he was the biggest, but not only, reason to the band breaking up.

Why should you pick a side? When you eat Tzatziki and enjoy it... nobody will ask you afterwards what you liked the most. The yoghurt or the cucumber? The unique combination of those four talents gave us Dark side of the moon, Wish you were here, The wall...etc etc.

Waters: touchy, driven, perfectionist, high-minded and judgmental. And really great at writing lyrics and arranging.

Gilmour: easy-going, personable, lazy, and really good at playing the guitar and not too much else.

That’s about the size of it. Just offsetting personalities that simply cannot exist in the same creative pursuit. Even though their cooperation gave us some of the finest music of the era, they just can’t be around one another. They’d rather make solo music they both know is lesser than what they may produce in collaboration.

Roger is working with some really talented musicians and with great studio producers, made some wonderful music and stage shows. Dave is so talented, like Roger he has collaborated with wonderful people and produced great albums. It is obvious that Roger courts controversy with his opinions. Let us all agree that they are both able to make us all love the music. Roger, Nick, Dave & Rick plus a bit of grit gave us a wonderful backdrop to our lives. Thank you

There is no Pink Floyd without Roger or David. No more. And singing is a perishable skill.
