I was shocked by the hospitality of the Muslim people when I was in Ramallah in Palestine. I'm an American Christian and was working for a Christian television ministry. They didn't care who we were, or that we were Americans. They welcomed us with open arms and invited us into their homes, fed us and treated us like honored guests. It strikes me that in the U.S., where we have far more than we need, we act as though we don't have enough, yet in parts of the world where they have little, they act like they have an abundance and are so generous with what little they do have.

I'm fortunate to live a couple of hours from Hamtramck, and would like to visit someday.

I've worked in the Middle East for around 16 years. Muslim people are the most generous people i have ever come across.

I'm a year late commenting, but thank you for saying nice things about Detroit. I moved here in 2016 and it's the best decision I ever made. I live 5 minutes from Hamtramck, and now am reminded that I need to go shopping over there.

I was a Marine and fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. I walked away with nothing but the utmost respect for the regular people of those countries. They were kind, generous, honest, steadfast in their faith, and the most welcoming people I have ever met. They were overjoyed and proud to have you as their guest. It was a big deal to them that everything was just so and that you were comfortable and well taken care of.

AND... the big secret... their women are gorgeous. I'm talking about a mountain goat herder who has 5 daughters that could all be supermodels. Ahmad was a local contractor who helped our supply people get stuff we needed. Ahmad was trying to marry off his daughters to men in the USA because they would have a better life. I played along (because this was a big deal in their culture) and he introduced me to his daughter Ameena.

Ameena is literally the prettiest girl I've ever seen. I am 20 and she is 15. I was no buddy I can not marry your 15 year old daughter and take her to America for about 47 reasons. I often wonder what ended up happening to her. I hope she ended up in a nice situation.

Wow - I'm glad you made this trip into Hamtramck. I'll be 70 in a few days and back in around 1978, my late husband, the other guys on his bowling team, and myself drove from Ohio to Hamtramck for a bowling tournament they were participating in. At that time, the area was mostly Polish. I saw the old bowling alley when you were showing in the beginning of the video where they bowled the tournament. As for Dearborn, and most of the Detroit area, from the 1950s through the 1970s (those are the years I know of), and even before (my mother-in-law was born in Detroit), the majority of the people were Irish and Polish Catholics along with other Europeans. I'm glad to see Hamtramck coming back to life with a new flavor (I'd heard that entire area of the Detroit 90-minute market had gone downhill from the 1970s onward to more recent times. Thank you again for showing everyone this city within a city.

I always have been amazed by muslim hospitality. I experienced it first in France during my childhood and later on by traveling the world including predominantly muslim nations. Muslim are the most welcoming and generous people and they expect nothing in return. I was so well treated and impressed by their generosity, hospitality and respect that I finally embrassed Islam in 1996.

I used to deliver to small hardware stores around Detroit, including in Hamtramck, and what I found was great people who cared about their community and just wanted a good life for themselves, and a better life for their children.

I worked in Syria for a month, in the 90's! Palmyra is beautiful. The hotel at Palmyra is lovely, and the food is great. We performed in there. So many incredible places to see. The mosques in Damascus were incredible.

This is so cool to watch. I spent some time in Hamtramck last summer so I recognize a lot of where you were. From the limited time had there, I grew to love it. There's a special feeling. It's not like downtown Detroit or the suburbs. It feels safe, which is unique because you wouldn't expect that with so many different cultures colliding. there's just a sense of humanity that I can't say I've experienced anywhere else. The There is beauty in the Muslim way of life. I heard the call to prayer downtown one day and it was beautiful to think that people are publicly called to worship every day. Bonoful was some of the best food I've ever had. Thanks for sharing Hamtramck with the world, Peter. No one shows humanity the way you do.
