$10 per audio hour (AH) is not good. Audio hour means the length of the audio. To put this is prespective it takes an average of 4 hours to transcribe 30 minutes of Audio.

I've been in the workforce some 45 years...2, 3, 4 jobs ..part time...2 parttime, 1 full time, 1 sales straight commission...morning, afternoon, overnite... I've never had any problems, up until recently, when a temp agency held up my job application, on a background check ...1 full month, waiting...I didnt believe it, meantime never heard of waiting 1 full month...

I'd never pay again to a company for a background check. I never seem to get a job when I've paid. I think they are keeping people's money and just not hiring them. Maybe they are not but it makes me suspicious how much money is raked in for background checks and the people don't even get the jobs.

$10 per AUDIO hour = almost nothing. The audio quality could be bad, accents might be thick, many speakers makes it confusing, many rules regarding how to describe things other than actual dialogue, like inaudibles, crosstalk, etc. You also need to do research on what you're typing, especially names of people and locations. It once took me over 80 minutes to work out a 3-minute video because it was a native of Papua New Guinea talking about her world of National Rugby League: players, towns, stadiums, etc. That job made me $1.48.
Think twice before transcribing, because it will never equal a full-time position in a "real" job, no matter how fast you type, because you're at the mercy of the audio recordings.

Great advice Justin. I am absolutely a night owl and I've always been a writer. I was offered a full scholarship to Yale for writing from a professor at a community college I attended in 1998 who is an author, taught at Yale for years, and is on the board of directors at Yale University. I didn't follow through with it, but the opportunity was there. He encouraged to pursue a career in writing at any point I am able to do it so I might check into problogger or others. I just moved and plan on having an ebay store, but I may be able to fit this in too. Thank you for the valuable information.
