Parrot Free Flight Journey || Mikey The Macaw

Mikey’s Free Flight journey is by no means a tutorial on parrot free flying or on how to free flight train your bird. Many points on what this takes were missed out for the sake of a shorter video. If you watch this then and try repeat these steps and throw your bird into a field, you will most probably loose it. Most methods shown on this video, like flying on a line or harness and flying in small parks with distractions are strongly advised against in the world of real free flight training and is not recommended.

I love watching Mikey’s progress, I fell in love with a blue & gold macaw called Casper age 3 and a half when we bought him from someone at our local pet shop in 2016. Such a beautiful bird in a cage all day was so sad and whilst it caused a few creeping sessions with my partner to let me get him, it was all worth it. The first 6 months were filled with temper tantrums from Casper and my arms looked like battle zones with bite bruises but it was all worth it! I was almost at my wits end, it was 4am and I was trying to get Casper in his cage for the night and he point blank refused, I slumped in my chair and started to cry not noticing that Casper had come to sit next to me until I heard the words”I Love You” I know we have a hard job ahead but we are macaw & human forever!

Wow! As hilarious as the narration voice is, this video moved me to tears! What a journey! I have a new baby African Grey that I intend on free-flying. I've free-flight trained birds like mynas and starlings, but this will be my first time free-flying a parrot. This video was amazing, eye-opening, and inspiring! SUBSCRIBED! I cried so hard when I saw his happy Mikey was on his first flight. It was really sweet to watch. I am so happy for you guys you are really awesome bird parents and Mikey is the cutest thing I ever saw. Mikey and Jinxy are my two favorite macaws.
