TRENT SIGNING FOR REAL MADRID, HOW DID THIS HAPPEN??? Eurgh.... Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein have reported that the worst kept secret in football, Trent alexander-Arnold's free transfer move to Real Madrid, looks like it's about to be completed. Some thoughts on the emotional fallout, how we got here, who is to blame and hopefully some balanced discussion on why a lad from Liverpool would want to leave his boyhood team.

When he said he’d rather win the Balon d’or than be Liverpool captain the writing was on the wall.

Reports in Spain claim that Trent & Madrid have been "talking" for the past two years! They also claim that they encouraged Trent to sit tight and not to sign another contract. To add even more fuel to the fire, it is also claimed that Trent has been having Spanish lessons for the past two years, too. If all of this is accurate, then there's plenty of reasons to be disappointed and angry with Trent.

Trent’s more loyal to Bellingham than he is to Liverpool, end of

It’s the lack of clarity from Trent, he’s been so underhand about the way he’s gone about leaving

8:41 Sorry but no. He has not been excelent defensivly this season. First half of the season he was alright and it looked like Slots coaching had had some effect. But even then he wasnt excellent by any stretch of teh imagination and before the latest injury he was as bad as he´s ever been. I know "Dribbled past" is kind of a dodgy stat, but he´s been dribbled past 53 times this season. Granted that number is probably infalted from the games vs Man City where he faced Doku - but that is still more than 3x as many times as Robertson. You cant say he´s been excellent on the dfensive side this season with that in mind. And thats not even mentioning the times where he just fucks off trying to track back after losing the ball ( vs Fullham and Man United for example).

He's our vice captain, ran the contract down and leave on a free and has not made a public statement and to Madrid of all clubs is a big middle finger to the clubs owners. Unfortunately it's us fans that are the ones that get done over once again, he's going to get some abuse from the fans and it didn't have to end like this

Forget? I’m still not over the way he played against United with no less Virg screaming at him. He knew he was going for a long time. He signed the four yr contract to leave when Jurgen left. With the way he has acted the last 6 months, what an absolute tragic way to leave.

I hear a lot of people say "he has won everything, he completed football at Liverpool". but how about the Man Utd team under how many league titles did they win? the core group won 6-10 league titles. They also completed football but they all still stayed through their peak years.

His leaving is not the problem...his handling of the situation is the problem. Whether Trent believes/likes it or not, his Scouseness creates a level of responsibility to communicate to fans, that other players do not have...and he blew it. Oh, and he is an overrated player that benefitted from Klopp's system...never very good defensively, never 1st choice for England, never going to Madrid if they would have had to pay a transfer fee. Period. Enjoy carrying Bellingham's bags in Spain.

Totally disagree. Trent defensively has been better than last season. But he's an average defender. Much better in midfield, where we can't really point the finger, but his performance against Man U at Anfield this season was shocking. We as fans shouldn't demand loyalty, but we should ask for honesty. Has Trent been honest? No.

Trent cares more about what world football think of him than what Liverpool fans think of him. End of

Could see it for a while, his body language screams he was gone; he’s asked not to do a media interview for months now because he’s scared of getting questioned about his contract, now I bet he will hide behind this injury and hope to slip out the back door, very selfish character, he can do one, any fans saying we should have no issue it are talking rubbish

What has hurt the most is that a local lad has conspired against us, dancing on Real Madrid strings, agreeing to their playbook. He could have atleast gotten us a 100 mil yet decided to be selfish to people who defended him for years.

Trent could've signed a deal with a release clause in and told the club he wanted to go beforehand, he could've said "I want to go but I want you to get a substantial fee for me and leave the fans happy", but he didn't

It’s the fact he’s leaving on a free
Is the issue ..
But if Madrid had to pay a decent fee for him
They’re not looking at Trent

Because he planned it
Once klopp said he was going
It became easier to see what options happen ..

2019 - 2023. Trent: "This means more" and "My biggest dream is captain Liverpool one day" and "Steven Gerrard is my footballing icon."
2024 - 2025. Trent: "I really want to win the balon d'Or" and "Zidane is my footballing icon."

Whatever. Jog on, mate. The club have offered to make him the highest paid Englishman in the Premier League. But he's rejected contracts for two years because his mind was already made up.

He's been dribbled past FIFTY-THREE times this season. Highest in a league that contains Southampton and Leicester. Pretty impressive stat. And he's only created 6 assists in the league. That's not worthy of £1.2million a month, but still he was offered it. He's lazy and arrogant and he doesn't run to help out his teammates. Robertson is struggling, but his loyalty and effort is never in question. Even Trent's dopey brother was recorded laughing after we lost to Newcastle at Wembley. And his other brother is about to make £10 million from his agent's fee. Conflict of interest, much??

And don't forget what that celebration now means after he scored a deflected goal against West Ham. He was shushing US, the fans who have supported him for 7 years.

Hey-ho. At least we don't have to pretend like he's a good defender anymore. And for those fans who still claim he is, tell me you won't salivate at the thought of Luis Diaz (or whoever our LW is by then) running at him the Champion's League. It will be brutal and glorious.

I swear only Liverpool fans can have our joy at winning a league diminished by stuff like this. It was Covid in 2020. Then I was worried about no parade because of WWIII. Now this sh*t. But we've won this league IN SPITE of Trent's lack of effort this season, not because of his magic on the ball. He jogs around like he doesn't want to get injured and now we know why.

Legacy ruined. Madrid fans gets the white hankies ready because if he drops a stinker like he did against United then they'll be gunning for him. Those lot booed Ronaldo and he ain't "the Scouser in their team". Good luck, laa. Can't help but think this is an epic mistake because his personality doesn't seem to suit RM and all that nonsense that comes along with it.

Oh, and the corner wasn't even taken *that* quickly, anyway... 😂😂

I feel like he has had this decided for a couple of years now. I'm not angry he's leaving on a free nearly as much as I am that he's manipulated the club. At least Emre Caan flat out told us he was leaving and wouldn't renew. Fairplay. Trent has looked surely and distracted for months now. He clearly planned to leave. Coward for not facing things head on.

People talk about Trent "completing football" as if we've won 5 of the last 6 premier leagues, three champions leagues, and a quadruple. Bro won everything once and a couple more league cups. Still PLENTY more for him to do in a Liverpool shirt to cement a dominant legacy.

Coutinho had the spine to admit he wanted to leave, and in the process earn LFC a hefty fee. Mané wanted to leave an was allowed to leave for a fee. Same for Fabinho. Trent has run down his contract and will leave on a free. I think Trent chose the worst possibel way of leaving Liverpool.
