Mistakes You Never Noticed In 'National Lampoons Christmas Vacation'

The movie is a classic and is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, but that doesn't mean there weren't a few mistakes the editors missed.

Favorite Christmas movie for THIS family! Other factors not withstanding, I always got a kick out of how the ALUMINUM snow disc generated sparks during his downhill run.

I'm 10 minutes into watching Christmas Vacation as we speak, (and have seen it around 60 times before this) I have already forgotten how stupid these mistakes you pointed out truly were, and will not notice them during this one of a kind masterpiece.. That's because, they aren't worth noticing.. Get a life Grinch.

How about "Mistakes in 'Mistakes you never noticed in...' :

8:45 While the amount of lights may be a mistake, but the breaker switch shown was the for whole house. That's the master breaker / switch that was shown. It cuts power to the entire house. Individual breakers are smaller and often rectangular. The big clue here is there is no amperage listed. On regular individual breakers, there is usually an amperage stampped next to them, not to mention MAIN BREAKER is printed in large print (meaning this is the primary breaker that all other breakers go through). You switch that off, everything goes off.

8:200 Not the first kidnapping? The one at Wally World was NOT a kidnapping, but rather a hold up (with a toy gun). Kidnapping usually means that someone is taken away from a place against their will. At Wally World the security gaurd was not kidnapped rather held up by Griswald.

My adds to this list. When Clark falls through the attic floor (2nd floor ceiling), he lands on the bop bunk of a bunk bed. Then, when Ellen opens the attic steps he falls the rest of the way through. Also, the movie can and the movie mentioned different years.

There is one thing, fairly obvious if you're able to catch it is, when Clark finally gets the lights working, the family comes out to view them and he goes one to one making a comment, he's unaware that Eddie & Catherine are there, he's in shock when he realizes that they are. The point to be made is, before the lights work, the driveway is empty, after he talks to Eddie, the RV appears in the driveway and not once do you see or hear that wreck drive in and park.

if the outlet is wired to the switch that ellen turns on lights will come on if they are plugged into the outlet smh

I never noticed any of these, but the one I did notice is when Eddie is dumping the black tank on his camper, the camera zooms out towards the end of the scene and you can see the end of the hose isn’t attached to anything.

Sorry but your wrong I lived in Illinois or Chicago for 28 years and yes you can find lil mountains in the South part of Illinois right by the borders of Missouri and Kentucky...

For the Illinois one you were right they weren't in Illinois, but if you are going to chop or saw down a Christmas tree the tree is not usually in the city. I live in the city and in December I always go to rural area to get mine.

I always thought that one bulb goes out they all go out yet when the cops swarm the house and run across the roof they must never step on a bulb because they all stay lit

Missed a few. The door knocker was ripped from the door by the mail man then later it reappears on the door.

when he watches the old movie the film reel says 1959 but the movie says 1955,

when he is on the ladder stapleing, one of the bulbs near his arm is broke and is just dangiling,

p.s. when the neibors pull up the night they get the tree, i never hear the woman say "looks like the toad underestimated the high of his livingroom ceiling" until this year

The last one wasn't a mistake. The switch didn't turn on the lights alone. It was the combination of the switch and him plugging in the extension cord at the same time that turned the lights on. That's why he thought he had did it.

Also it makes no sense to have the brother and sister share a bed
Also Clark sat and made a hole in Rusty’s bunk bed ceiling but later falls out of the ladder

Like so many i'v watched this movie ump-teen times . Watching this was really interesting! I guess I'v never noticed them before. As much as i'v like seeing this, now when I watch the movie I definitely won't be able to unsee them ! . . 😳 . 🎄 . 😫

You missed the most obvious error, that Audrey has somehow gotten older than Rusty since the first two films.

Hmm, interesting that the biggest faux pas was the fact that all the trees had green leaves still on them during December in Illinois. These cheap Christmas movies always done on Universal Studio's backlot always bum me out because we know it really isn't cold, it really isn't winter and the southern California sun is shining like it's August, not December. That's what makes A Christmas Story so damned good; it was actually done in freezing cold snowy weather in the area of the country that it at least claims to be in.
