Possibly my favorite book of all time. I love how death is betrayed as not at all evil or scary, but dutiful and almost reluctant at times. Somehow the Zusak is able to describe scene and feelings and people in ways I've never heard before, but are somehow absolutely perfect and make it to where you feel like you are experiencing the true emotions of the story. Such a tearjerker, so amazing.

I can not agree more with this review. This book was a passionate read and now a favorite, the characters were amazing all around, the narrator of this book- death I have no words that can do this book justice. The setting, the plot, everything was well portrayed, executed beautifully tied together.

You mentioned this before before so I went to good ole Barnes and Noble and got it. I'm only a few pages in, but I'm loving it already.

Rudy is my favourite character and I knew he would die because Death spoiled it, but when I read that he picked up his soul... OMG I WAS TRASH SERIOUSLY and the part where Death picked up Rosa's and Hans' soul didn't made it better. I never cried so much because of a book, I cried even harder than by Clockwork Princess

This is easily my all time favorite book! not only is the story itself so unbelievably beautiful, but the writing and prose are breathtaking. I don’t think I've ever felt as connected to characters in any book (even Harry Potter) as I was with the ones in this one, I love them the way I love my friends :)

I read this book my sophomore year and it was probably the most powerful and life changing book I’ve read. The ending had me in tears and I remember sending an email to my teacher and attaching a picture of me in tears

Thanks for your review. I bought the book in 2016 in New Zealand when we were living there. I am now back home in Australia and have picked it up to read and complete it. I am 100 plus pages along and really enjoying it. Take care. 🌻

Hey there, A few years late to when this was posted! I read the book thief for speech and debate (extemporaneous reading) in 2016 and 2017. Anyways the point of that backstory was when I was reading the death parts at the end of the book, like the boy with the lemon hair, I was crying while speaking. It was such a moving book to read aloud!
A book that I would 100% recommend if you like the book thief is “All the light we cannot seep by Anthony doerr!
