At its highest point we were getting around 4% of our gas from Russia, Johnson recently claimed that we now get zero percent from them. Which begs the question, Europe were heavily reliant on Russian gas and Germany were getting 66% from Russia - why are our energy costs higher than any other country in Europe?

Her question to the chancellor should be: Why does the average person living here in the UK, feel they are living in a 3rd world country.

Who is going to be responsible for deaths of old people in winter in UK it will be due to energy price hike of 80%

Privatizing essential public services is NEVER a solution! We see in healthcare, post, rail, ferries, busses and energy the terrifying results of allowing the UK to sell off its public services. Take it back with imminent domain and protect essential services.

It’s not just the lower earners that will struggle, low to middle earners that can’t get benefits will also really struggle.

People who can't pay will not be cut off, but they will be put on prepayment meters and while not technically disconnected will still be unable to afford to heat their homes without more radical intervention. In any event many will be turning their thermostats down to 10 degrees as they will only be able to afford to ward off the cruellest frosts.
I suspect people who can will be using more solid fuels. Is it my imagination, or are things already starting to get smokier as we herald the return of old king coal?

He said nothing of value just repeats the same funds which are not enough he doesnt sound confident. So many people & businesses will be struggling not just people with pre-paid meters complete waste of time.

Perhaps no one will be cut off from gas or electric over winter but they will still fear the final bill and may not be able to pay it. The result could be severe debt, mental health issues, prosecutions, being cut off after winter, bad credit ratings, criminal record, evictions, suicide. The next PM better have a plan. The energy market is broken. While gas has been restricted from Russia, the UK gets only 3% from Russia and has 50% renewable energy, it can slso import electricity from France which is 80% nuclear. Electricity prices need to be decoupled from gas prices.

Take the p and I'll have it cut off myself! When that standing charge is more than £1 that's exactly what's happening.

They keep blaming Russia but we only get 4% off gas from Russia

Prepayment meters that are not kept in credit WILL SWITCH OFF hence disconnecting yourself

I hope Zahawi has stopped claiming expenses to heat his stables at the 'small cottage' he and his wife bought? - contained on many acres of land. (a minor oversight of his of course???).

He wants to give MORE taxpayer money to the energy companies.

"If we don't continue to support Ukraine ... The price will be much greater".
He's right. It will. Much much greater.
