Thanks. Your video helped me get my $5 Goodwill deck running. Took me longer to clean the goo than to change the belts.

I just finished putting 22:17 belts on one side of a TC-WE635 (No “s” on the end. Made in China in 1970. WHAT A BARE TO WORK ON! To the get the belt on the capstan motor most of the deck needs to be disassembled. Not at all like your video. Just an FYI.

These decks are so easy if you hook the belts over the plastic posts then just slip them onto the pulley .

There are two holding tabs on the main chassis (metal) that hold the belt in place and two plastic holding tabs on the plastic motor chassis. The holding tabs hold the belt over the motor pulleys, then when the two pieces are placed together you can pop them off the holding tabs onto the pulleys, This is a TCM 190 transport. Look up my videos for details. Great attempt without the proper training, Kudos brother!

Idk if it's the choice in music, me, or the deck but I'm hearing a very noticeable wow and flutter.

wish you had looked into the recording features as this has a autocal function. that can in some cases take the deck up to another level as old decks usually were considered more high end whit calibration features overall.

I have one of these machines (or a VERY similar model.) I can't remember the exact model number, but it's virtually identical. Dolby "S" and everything. BUT... My question is, when you press EJECT, the tape door keeps sticking shut, even though I am very gentle with it! Is there some trick to "lube" some latch or something to keep that from happening? Thanks!

I just pulled this deck of mine out storage and sure enough, it isn't spinning and the left deck won't disengage and open. Can you share what belts and where you ordered them from?

I just picked one of these up and it looks pretty mint. It turns on and when I put tapes in it just does not seem to be able to spin the tapes and sort of makes a kind grinding noise. I am assuming it would be the same issue. Like the belts are just old and gooey. I do live in Vegas and maybe it was in heat. Would you think what I described would be the belts. As someone that is not very savvy with repairs this does seem manageable for me. Any other advice you have would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you for posting this - great fun to watch you ( the "come on mans" were classic ). I picked up the 645 which I think is pretty much the same deck as this one minus some minor differences. Looking forward to setting it up. Is that a spectrum analyzer or a receiver below the deck? Looks sharp.

You could have made the belts so much easier by hooking the belts around the standup post which sony calls claws. Then you just slide the belts on with a tweezers or hook tool. Service manual is online to look at. You made it a lot harder on yourself. Oh Well

I have the same deck and yes, apart from the need to remove the front panel and everything it is pretty straight forward.
I have another the TC-WR665S which is an upgrade as it adds pitch control, service manual is the same but the unit inside is not exactly the same, more cables to unplug and a addon board on deck which just makes things a little trickier.
Anyhow, once taken apart it's the same process for the belts (same belts actually).
My issue with this one is deck A refuse to work. Deck B is working fine. It's like deck A gears (under the belt mechanism) is reversed (when I compare to deck B) and it won't play, FF, FR etc though the belts are working everything is spinning etc..
If anyone has any idea what I did wrong and how I can fix it I will greatly appreciate. I disassemble deck A twice but with the same results.

29:40 How is it possible after all this work to have so awful results? This is so fluttery! Unlistenable piano strings. Worn or dry motors maybe?
