Number 7. VISIT HERZ JESU KIRCHE
Visit Herz Jesu Kirche
Herz Jesu Kirche, also called "Church of the Sacred Heart," is the biggest church in Graz and an amazing place to visit. Its 109.6-meter church tower is the third-highest in Austria. It was built from 1881 to 1887 and was made in the Neo-Gothic style by architect Georg Hauberrisser. Inside the church, the stained glass windows are beautiful, and getting in is free.
Number 6. THE STYRIAN ARMORY
The Styrian Armory
Graz was attacked from the east a lot because of its location in the southern Alps and because it was the capital of inner Austria. Antonio Solar built a Zeughaus (armory) in 1642 to protect the people of the city. It is now the only original armory in the world, with 32,000 items from the 15th century to the early 19th century. Inside, there are displays of weapons for common soldiers and elaborate armor for nobility. On the outside, there is an impressive facade with two Baroque statues of Mars and Minerva, the god and goddess of war.
Number 5.MAUSOLEUM OF EMPEROR FERDINAND II
Emperor Ferdinand II gave his Italian court painter and architects the job of building this mausoleum in 1614. It has the first dome seen outside of Italy. It was one of the most important buildings in the 17th century, and it is right next to the free-to-enter St. Catherine's Church and the Cathedral, both of which are also very impressive. Inside the mausoleum, there are beautiful murals and a red marble sarcophagus for Ferdinand's mother, Maria of Bavaria.
Number 4. MURINSEL (ISLAND IN THE MUR)

After Graz was chosen as the European Capital of Culture in 2003, the American artist Vito Acconci was asked to make this impressive steel structure and artificial island. It is actually a ship that is anchored in the water. There are footbridges on both sides that lead to the city. This half-shell building has an amphitheater on the outside and a cute café on the inside. In between the two, kids can enjoy an "island adventure." At night, the whole island has a beautiful blue glow. This should be on your list on things to do in Graz.
Number 3. EGGENBERG PALACE
Eggenberg Palace
On the edge of the city center, Eggenberg Palace is a beautiful building. Prince Hans Ulrich von Eggenberg ordered the main palace to be built in 1625 to show the new Gregorian calendar. It connects to a medieval castle from the 1300s and has beautiful gardens with peacocks walking around the buildings. There are many galleries to look at, including a Lapidarium with one of the largest collections of Roman stones in Austria, a coin collection, and the Alte Galerie, which has art from the Romanesque to late Baroque periods.
Number 2. GLOCKENSPIEL
Glockenspiel
The Glockenspiel is a clock that was built as an ad for a brewery. It plays every day at 11am, 3pm, and 6pm. As the clock strikes these times, a wooden couple dances pirouettes while the 24 bells ring. There are three different melodies, and they switch between Christmas carols, Alpine folk yodeling, and modern songs. It's a nice thing to stop and look at as you walk around the city, especially at Christmas. The woman is holding a towel instead of a beer because it used to be against the law for women to drink alcohol in public.

Locals call the Kunsthaus Graz "the friendly alien." It is a masterpiece of innovative design that was built to honor the city's time as the "Capital of Culture" in Europe. This unique building was made by British architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier. It has a "skin" made of 1,066 acrylic pieces and stands out in the city. Contemporary art from Austria and around the world is shown at the Kunsthaus, and the views from inside the building are truly breathtaking.
