Displacement On Demand Failure! Disaster On Delay! 6.2 in trouble!

GM Displacement on Demand Failure is unfortunately extremely well know and more often than not a ticking time bomb for many GM vehicle owners. In the case of this GMC Sierra Denali that ticking stopped about 3 months after he had purchased this beautiful and clean truck. So, what's wrong? How bad is it? And what is it going to take to fix it?

The IDEA behind the Chevy Displacement on Demand / GMC Displacement on Demand (D.0.D) makes sense, getting the power and usefulness of a big brawny V8 when you need it but the fuel efficiency of a 4 cylinder when you don't SOUNDS like a great idea. However, in reality, it's left more than a few new or preowned owners with massive repair bills to contend with. How could can it be though? Well, let's dive in and take the truck apart shall we?

I'm a Chevy fan at heart but I bought a 22 Toyota Tundra because of this issue!

Been following Lucore's videos for some time now, the "no nonsense" approach to covering automotive related topics is very much appreciated. I've picked-up several good ideas compliments of Rich and Austin, Thank you Gentlemen!

Of all the less than good ideas that GM has had over the years the DOD system is probably one of the worst if not THE worst. "Let them break and buy a new one" could not agree with you more Rich. Nothing scares you off a job.

Why not just buy a new long block.makes sense to fix due to cost of trucks now

The engineers that designed these vehicles have no idea on how to work on them. Putting nuts and bolts where you can’t get to them. They should have a working idea on how things have to come apart just in case. Gm should have a recall on all these engines. No way should the customer be responsible for there big mistake y

Wow. This job is gonna cost more than the truck is worth. !! Sometimes you gotta just cut your loses and move on. Kinda like an ex wife that takes everything you had !!😂

DISAPPOINTED ! When I saw the torch come out I thought you were cutting the cats out and scrapping it, but no, that would've been too sensible !!

I'm a tried and true GM guy but that is on of GMs worst ideas!! Buy a truck for a truck not a soccer mom grocery getter!!!. Fuel economy is not for truck owners, we know it.
