Rio Ferdinand, a centre back blessed with a lot of technique, skills & flair as well as physical attribute. He's a complete centre back in his generation. He's very good in everything, he's comfortable on the ball, he can pass the ball, he can tackle, read the game very well, he can win aerial duel even against a strong player like Didier Drogba & he is gifted with incredible pace.

Towards years of 2012, he started to lose his pace, but it doesn't stop him to be a good centre back as he is an intelligent defender. He was still managed to get himself into PFA team of the year in 2012/2013.

I love how mostly old school player get up and doesn't complaining when they got tackled. Unlike player nowadays who will dive on even slightly touches. Lol

I'm Italian, but still Rio will be my favorite defender of his generation. I mean Cannavaro and Nesta were out of this world, Rio was a monster.

0:40 - tell me why I was confident that Rio would stop an entire RONALDINHO in a one-on-one situation. No defender has given me confidence like him. Even Vida sometimes, I worried when players dribbled at him. With Rio, I always had confidence that he would NEVER give away a foul and that he would always get the ball. Yes, even against Messi! Always stayed on his feet and made the tackle at the right time, unlike some of our current defenders that just jockey and let the striker shoot. I hope Bailly can fill his boots and then Maguire can fill Vidic’s boots.

Best defender in the prem history when you take all aspects into account! I remember Bellamy burning him from the halfway line and at that point I knew he was finished at elite level. I see him play against the greats of that era in the biggest of matches, especially at club level. Rio never failed to disappoint👊.
