The other day I came across a vocaloid song, PinocchioP’s “Anonymous M, ” which made me think of Pygmalism because it seemed rooted in guilt (or at least some kind of guilt-tinged ambivalence) about being a male producer shaping the words of a female singer made to be sung by the female singer. Like on Kahimi Karie’s version of Pygmalism, you can kind of hear what is presumably the producer’s singing in unison with the lead vocals. Of course, in this case their sound doll genuinely is artificial and can’t write for itself, if the guilt is genuine it’s a strange kind of guilt.

this sounds more ai than most ai. all those synth arpeggios and heavily processed vocal tracks sound like retro futuristic 80s dance pop. i feel that this artificial sound works for a song about a sentient ai music software exploring and questioning its own existence and purpose.
