in the middle ages, cooking was done at communal ovens pretty often, eating out would have still been a somewhat uncommon thing. you make it sound like people didn't have cooking facilities and their solution was frequently buying cooked food. Yes that was an option, but a village kitchen of sorts would have been a lot more common.
