Islam teaches that boasting and bragging is a sign of arrogance and self-centeredness, and it is one of the most serious sins in the eyes of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “The most severely punished people on the Day of Judgment are those who are arrogant and boastful.” (Ahmad, An-Nasa’i, and Ad-Darimi).

When someone boasts about their family background, they are essentially claiming to be superior to others, which is a form of pride and arrogance. The Quran states, “And do not turn your face away from people in contempt, nor walk in insolence through the earth. Indeed, Allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful” (Quran 31:18). This verse clearly shows that Allah does not like people who are boastful and arrogant.

Boasting about one’s family background can also lead to envy and jealousy among others. If someone is constantly bragging about their family background, others may feel inferior and envious of them. As a result, they may become resentful and competitive, which can lead to hatred and maliciousness.

In Islam, it is important to remember that Allah is the only one who knows the truth about one’s family background and wealth. Therefore, it is best not to talk about it or make it the center of attention. Instead, Muslims should focus on the blessings of Allah and be grateful for them.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever is pleased with Allah as his Lord, Islam as his religion, and Muhammad as his Prophet, has indeed achieved the pleasure of Allah.” (Muslim). This hadith shows that when one is content with Allah’s blessings, they are pleasing Allah and will be rewarded in the Hereafter.
