Restoration done by Philip Mould and Company.
Full portrait can be seen in the next video.
The only information they have about the painting and the woman is what was on the inscription in the painting, age (36) and year (1618).

That's amazing chemistry, strong enough to remove varnish but not the gentle modeling on her face. Cool.

Back when I was a child, I used to think that they didn't had bright colors for paintings, not knowing or thinking about the layers of time...nice work!

The fact that it removes the varnish but leaves the paint unscathed is quite incredible

Reviving old artworks would be a painstaking, but oddly satisfying way to make a living

Looks like she is peeping from behind a veil....a veil of time... beautiful ✨

We are so used to seeing these really old pictures all brown and smoke stained, that seeing a pink face on this one is amazing. Good work.

My dad use to do this when I was a kid. I loved helping him with it. It’s so satisfying.

It’s not only amazing the difference between the old varnish and it removed but also how beautiful and vibrant the colours are to this day 😮

The woman in the portrait must've come from an insanely rich or noble family in her time.

Whoever decided to protect the painting with varnish 200 years after it was originally painted was trying to protect it the best way they knew how in their time.

Now, the art restoration project is continuing to protect this irreplaceable artwork by restoring it to its original beauty.

Bravo! 👏🎉❤ and thank you!

That's amazing! I had no idea such brilliant colors were hiding underneath that nasty varnish. I also couldn't believe how much there was. It takes a true artist to do this work. I would be terrified to even begin, afraid that I would destroy the painting. The reward for doing this work is amazing.

As an artist it breaths life into me to see how art is cherished. That something that take 3 months to create can give pleasure for many lifetimes. I love the art restoration shows.

Incredible. I've studied this in the Fine Arts University and I understand what is like for a professional to do this and change a work of art into something more beautiful. It's got to be an unforgettable moment. Congratulations, you're awosome, great job. Love it.

It's kind of cool to think that the layer of paint beneath the varnish has last been touched by a human 400+ years ago, and by removing that varnish now you are the first person to touch that paint after centuries

She goes from being unfriendly looking to bright and inviting, with the restoration of the original color. What a beautiful painting. ❤
