Whenever I get discouraged or begin to procrastinate, I always remind myself of one of my favorite quotes, “a terrible script written is better that an amazing script unwritten!”

I've been getting into screenwriting lately and binge watching your channel. Really solid content bro, we should work together in the future

The best tactic is to smash your head against a wall if you don't reach your goal of 2, 000 words a day.

Works every time.

Added to that it sparks your creativity.

Something I needed so badly
MOTIVATION TO WRITE

What you are describing is a system-oriented approach versus a set of goals.

When you say, "My goal is to write five pages today, " and you end up writing nothing, all it does is crush motivation and nothing is accomplished.

Instead, practice those things that will, in the long run, help accomplish a task, and don't look at it as a goal that you can fall short of.

I've set up a system where every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday I open my screenwriting software and write. On those days off, I may get little nuggets of scene ideas or bits of dialogue may pop in my mind, and I will write them down on a slip of paper. Then, when Wednesday, Saturday or Sunday roll around, I may possibly have something to work with.

I don't care if I finish one page, 50 pages or no pages at the end of the week, because that's NOT my goal.

Screenwriting is a possible career choice. Set up a solid system that will get you there.

This is a sign from the universe. Thanks man! On page 32 of a pilot I’m working on and during this whole quarantine it’s so easy to be lazy but you just gotta ask yourself “what will make me happier tomorrow? Writing or not?” And the answer is almost definitely yes

I'm going to pick up the advice not only for screenwriting but also to writing.
I'm studying filmaking but my first produced short film was based on a story that I created initially for a novel.
So the advice it worth the double to me 😁✌️

I personally like to when I sit down imagine myself in a movie theater going to see my movie and imagining how it plays out in the theaters from the opening scene to the characters beginning to talk

Love that technique! You're right just opening the script software and honing that focus for about a minute really is that first difficult step! Also takes the stress off your brain of saying "I gotta write 25 pages today!"

"If you feel like quitting think about why you started." ~ Someone smarter than me.

It sounds simple, but it's important to remember the most important reason for why we all, essentially, write in the first place: this shit is _fun._ We all know what it's like to get to that point in a story when the words are just flowing out of you, seeds you planted start growing and the threads you've weaved start coming together. It's a rush! There's nothing else like it. It's like dreaming with your eyes open. Keep going until you reach that point then it's the easiest shit in the world.

Here’s an advice, try reading shorts stories (whatever the genre) and turn them into screenplays as an exercise.

This makes so much sense, and I like the “no pressure” approach. Great video!

I wrote a few lines even before the video finished. This is the beginning. Thanks for the motivation!

Wow Tyler, this was amazing! Thank you so much for this. I'm actually not screenwriting right now, I'm writing a short (15-20 pages) story that is magic/fantasy based.
I made a schedule as to when I am going to write the scenes, but for the last two days I have completely disbanded the schedule and not being able to focus on the story that I wanted to write. This definitely helped me, and I'm going to use this today to help me finish my next few pages. Thank you :D

In college I took a playwriting class with a successful playwright. Every class, we'd come in and he'd make us start writing for thirty minutes straight about anything we wanted. It could be a rant, a monologue, a dialogue between two or more persons, a journal entry, etc. We just had to write. At the end of the thirty minutes, he'd tell us to analyze our writing and see if anything in it could be added to our plays/scenes. If recent writing could be added, that was cool. if it couldn't, then it was no big deal because we usually got the thirty minutes of awkwardness out of the way and could jump right into our scenes.

I'm not in it for screen writing but this helped.

It might have just been a placebo on my end, just taking advice and my brain making it work, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work. I took your advice about just sitting there and just getting started and getting passed that first hurdle has gotten me through hours of work when I hadn't been expecting it.

It's godsend advice to put at the back of my head. Thanks, Tyler.

I was looking at the number of comments and likes and thinking ‘Man, why isn’t this guy getting more recognition? He’s producing great content!’ and then I realized it’s only been an hour since the video posted-
