Artist struggles. This is what happens when you don't flip your drawings horizontally regularly.

Might post more art memes like this in the future, I have a couple of ideas in mind.

I might try doing this traditionally using a literal mirror.

Flipping is how I noticed that I usually draw my characters a bit tilted.

the solution i’ve found is that if i don’t flip it, the problem simply doesn’t exist

How viewers see an artist’s art vs. how the artist sees their own art.

No matter how much the video is "fake", this is unbelievably accurate.

Quick tip:
If you draw traditionally and want to “flip” your art work, turn the paper over and press it against a window so light hits it, you’ll be able to see the reversed image. If it’s nighttime, hold your piece in front of a mirror

Edit: mom I’m famous

People seem confused about the purpose of flipping the canvas so I wanna clear that up: you don't flip the canvas when you're done to make you feel bad about yourself, you flip it multiple times throughout the drawing process so you can correct errors that your brain doesn't catch when you've been staring at it for too long.

If you're struggling to tell what looks weird about your drawing then flip it and it will become really obvious, then you can fix it. You don't want to flip it too frequently or you'll get used to both angles which stops it from working, but every now and then just give it a flip to see how it looks and then work on it until it looks right.

Human brains struggle to tell what is wrong with a drawing when they've been staring at it for a long time, flipping the image tricks your brain into thinking its a new image which makes the errors really obvious, leaving it for a few days before looking at it again does a similar thing.

This video is supposed to show how it feels to the artist to flip the canvas because real canvas flip videos often don't seem that different to anyone who isn't the artist, he clearly knows how it feels because the bits he edited in the drawing are common errors that you notice when you flip, like weird eye shape and position, but he faked it because it's about how it feels, it's not meant to be an accurate representation of how it looks.

If you flip your art and it looks like the second image it doesn't mean you're a bad artist, it just means you couldn't see what you were doing wrong at first but now you can, which means you're actually a better artist than you think and now you can correct the issues so it looks good from both angles.
