sometimes I just flip it back to the original and pretend I didn't see it

I just wanna say to everyone that you shouldn’t worry too much about what your drawing looks flipped. It’s normal for things to look weird from a different perspective, especially if you’ve been staring at it from one perspective for a long period of time. Sometimes selfies look awesome one way but awful when flipped.

As long as the drawing looks good the way it’s supposed to be looked at, you’re good. Of course occasional flipping is a good tool, I’m not saying that.

Does anyone else flip the canvas a bunch of times so they could see their drawing move? 😅

Flipping the canvas is good to notice mistakes you wouldn't notice otherwise. Your eyes got used to seeing the drawing on only one side, so it's way easier to miss any imperfections. But once you flip it, see it, and fix it, when you compare to how it looked like before, you see it looks way better. So flipping it to check for mistakes is a great way to improve. I speak from experience.

Disclaimer: I have learnt now that it is actually to notice mistakes you have been desensitised to so this statement is pretty much pointless but I'm still keeping the comment so you can see the replies.
Before digital art, painters didn't worry about what their canvas looks like flipped. It can be helpful sometimes but if it looks good how its meant to, it's highly unlikely someone will flip it and complain. Its not worth worrying too much about.

I remember the first time I flipped the canvas and didn't hate it, and actually thought it looked pretty good. I of course immediately laughed at myself thinking I just had too much to drink and left it for the night. Looked the next day and was still surprised it looked fine. I guess 1/1000 isn't too bad.

I once was in a situation recently where i had a piece for a bigger Twitter trend where everyone was running to the right. I was all excited drawing my sketch only to realize that i drew it facing the wrong way. Flipping matters a bunch sometimes

it’s weird because one time I was drawing something, decided to flip the canvas, and it looked better than the sketch that I was already almost done with

As a painter from the 18th century, I can’t even see the painting when I flip the canvas.

i think the best hack i know is just keeping a symmetry tool on at all times and then drawing on one half where the symmetry tool splits the canvas so you always have a flipped version to look at and refer to

Nice animation! Love it, personally I don't really like the brain's voice but definitely deserves a sub!

Traditional artist here. I’ll take a photos of my drawing when I’m done to show to friends and family. I realized I could flip them the other day and omg this happened every time. Rlly sad because there isn’t much I can do to fix it.

I notice some people in the comments not understanding this video.
I want to clarify that the artist _knows_ that the quality of the art itself has not changed when you flip it. It's a mostly psychological effect. When you've been staring at your drawing for too long you literally go blind to the errors you made (It's like spending a long time in a strongly smelling room and going nose blind to it until someone else walks in and mentions it)
Mirroring allows to artist to see the peice with fresh eyes. I can say from experience that the difference it makes is SHOCKING. But it's an extremely helpful technique, even if it's hard to swallow.

I was so proud of these art commissions I turned in until I awoke in a cold sweat realizing I never flipped the canvas and at this point I don’t even want to know because it’s too late to do anything about it but it haunts me
