We had a Family Dollar close down near us, which was sad to hear. But then it got replaced by Dollar Tree, which turned out to be much better.

As of today, dollar tree has announced an increase in price for most of its items to $1.25. The timing of this video was impeccable.

The 3 are like siblings

Dollar General being the eldest and the most popular
Family Dollar being the middle child and forgotten
And finally Dollar Tree, the youngest that everyone likes.

I grew up in a lower income rural town, and Dollar General will always be a comfort store to me because that’s where we always got the necessities when I was a kid.

As someone who has all three dollar stores in my city, I personally like Dollar Tree the most, if just because not only is everything actually a dollar, but they actually keep their stores clean. The other two are always an absolute mess and hard to find anything that's not broken.

I went to Family Dollar one time, and like 15% of the products are $1, everything else was regular price, and 30, 40 cents more expensive than Walmart.
Everything is a Dollar in Dollar Tree, It's way better imo.

Something weird I noticed based on my own experiences is that Dollar Tree tends to have a really nice selection of holiday decorations. My mom loves to decorate for various holidays, and one big thing she'll sometimes do is go shopping at Dollar Tree and walk out with a full cart of decorations for like $20.

One thing I've noticed is that Dollar Tree has a bit of a niche market on Youtube, in particular among crafters and people creating "life hacks" for cleaning/organization. And I believe Dollar Tree is aware of this and has learned to lean into it

When I moved out of my parents' house I had literally only $60 to my name and I took that money to dollar tree to buy the essentials I needed to take care of myself until I had money to buy more. I got all of the essentials for hygiene out of the way with a minimal amount of money, as well as my own little set of dishes, and I was amazed by the surprisingly good quality dishes I could get there. To this day a lot of my belongings are from dollar tree, especially my cleaning supplies, because there's really no use in paying a ton of money for those things when you can get them so much cheaper at a dollar tree and they work just the same. I am a little upset that they upped their prices to $1.25 but that's not going to stop me from going on a shameless shopping spree at the dollar tree. It will forever be my favorite place to shop.

Dollar General has become incredibly expensive, especially in smaller towns, where general store options are limited. They definitely shouldn't be considered a "dollar store" anymore.

As someone who has worked at Dollar Tree for a little over 2.5 years now, the beauty of the tree is that no matter how much time you spend there you can still be surprised when you spot something new and say to yourself “they sell THAT for a dollar?!”

Edit: Yes, I know it's $1.25 now, but the comment was made before the price change, so you don't have to tell me, I already know.

Dollar Tree has some shockingly good stuff. They have shelf-stable milk for crying out loud, and it's sold by the quart. That works out to a tad bit more expensive than buying by the half-gallon at most traditional stores, but as someone who uses so little milk that much of it goes bad (and when it does, I obviously don't have backup jugs because why would I stock up on perishables like that?) it's a game-changer. I can stock up and it will keep as long as it's sealed. Then, once it's opened, I only have to use up a quart before it spoils rather than a half-gallon AND if it does go bad in spite of that, I can keep spares on hand so I'm not running to the store in the middle of making dinner. It's really remarkable and while I'm not normally a "visit all the stores to get the best price on every single item" type, that's my exception. I make a special trip to Dollar Tree just for milk.

I like Dollar Tree, their stuff is actually a dollar and they have a nice selection of candy.

Dollar Tree no question. Everything is only $1 and they have a fantastic variety of everyday items. I love finding trash pickers, super glue, tape and all kinds of other useful things.

I have a theory that dollar stores have filled the hole in the market left by Kmart closing and stores like Target, Meijer and Walmart have ignored those markets.

I worked at Family Dollar in high school, what a horrible company to work for. It’s insane how they make money with the condition of their stores and inventory along with the way they treat employees.

I was on a team that fixed up and inventories stores.

I remember we went in and did inventory at a store when a new Store Manager took over (standard procedure when a new manager takes over). The previous manager had been there not even 6 months and the store was missing $80k worth of merchandise.

I heard rumors they fired the manager cause he was opening the loading dock at night and had a crew come steal out of the back room, but I don’t know if it was true

You probably get this a lot, but dollar stores remind me of spirit Halloween, which made me wonder how the hell spirit Halloween works. I think you're the perfect guy to do a video about it, plus it is a question everyone has.

Fingers crossed that someday they all consolidate into a store called "Dollar Dollar"

As a wise man once said
"I generally do not visit the dollar general and i dont let my family visit the family dollar, i plant myself in the dollar tree cuz its the only one to maintain the purity of one dollar only items... or the 99 cents store"

I'll always love Dollar Tree. When I was younger, my grandparents would take my brother and I there and give us $3 each to spend, and we could take as long as we wanted at the store. We'd end up coming out with some toys or craft kits or something similar, and we'd spend the entire weekend playing with them. It was like a fun game and I'd always look forward to it when I went to visit.
