In this video, we are covering what a segment of a circle is, and how to calculate the area of a segment!
A segment of a circle is the portion of a circle bounded by chord and an arc, where the arc connects to both endpoints of the chord! To determine the area of a segment, we determine the area of the sector using the same arc length, and subtract the portion of the sector that is not part of the segment which is a triangle shape! The formula becomes:
Area = (r^2)(πθ/360° - sinθ/2) ... when working in degrees
and
Area = ([r^2]/2)(θ - sinθ). ... when working in radians
