If Ding recovers from this, nothing will be able to break him

This gave me legit goosebumps. After he played the blunder, i think i felt my heart sink in silence. This was heartbreaking.

Can we take a moment to appreciate Anish's commentary. Both true and heartfelt.

Who is here after he did the same thing vs Gukesh to defend his championship in 2024.

This was heartbreaking to see… we almost got a win with black in a French defence in a world championship match. I can’t imagine how frustrated Ding must have felt😢

I never imagined i would witness a WC classical game where the opponent gets flagged. These games are just taking a wild turn one after the other.

He’s clearly struggling mentally
He said in interview that he feels little depressed. He’s one of the greats of chess and is the most humble and sweet person
I hope he will be back and i hope people are there to support him during this period.

If Ding wins this after this loss then it will perhaps be one of the greatest world championship wins ever

The way I understood his comments in the press conference, he didn't simply freeze but evaluated the position as borderline lost for black, especially if he played it slow, so he was looking for tricks. With an eval bar it's easy to miss, but he's down an exchange so it makes some sense.

The problem is the downward spiral. Too many lines to check, time gets low, you realise it, then realise you have too many line to check, the first couple ones you check ended up not looking good so you know you have to look for more, time is lower, you realise you don't have time to think, but you have to and from there your mind think about the time and not the game, it becomes too difficult to concentrate, you freeze.

I really understand now when Hikaru sometimes says "I know this isnt the best move but I'll make it anyway" Hikaru really has a good ability to identify at least a move that isnt losing on the spot.

psychologically this might affect Ding for the rest of the tournament.

Great clip, this is such a human moment. I love how Giri was there with his head and heart to walk us through this. Feeling it for Ding <3

Ding told at the very first day - he can't imagine himself being WCC. I feel like he is unconsciously sabotaging his victory.. winning can be scary, indeed.

The mental stress was colossal. As Hemingway alluded to in his quote on sport, a sport is when you put your life on the line. These 2 guys are doing just that.
