Keep in mind, this game is not designed to be a full on sim racing game, it’s a game for F1 fans who enjoy the sport and wants to experience it for themselves. If you are not a F1 fan, you will likely think this game is not up to standards but this is really the only game F1 fans have to play so they take it. Besides, the F1 community has not been too big on VR so I suspect that is one of the reasons why VR is not in the game.

The game NEEDS: Laser scanned tracks, visuell tyre flex, NO cring kiddies cut scenes, better FFB, virtual back mirror and VR! codemasters is all about money, theyll give you every year only a bit better game, the could have made it almost perfect, but what comes next year? theyll give us only little bits every year, like in the smartphone industry....

No VR is unforgivable. Not enough new here over F12018 to justify buying, unless you want to do the esports stuff.

Personally, I would scrap everything except racing. I don't want to sit in an office writing contracts, picking up computers or answering interview questions. What is this? SIMS F1? Focus on the actual driving like PC2. F1 already has an engaging SP mode with practices, qualification, and race. Give me realistic weather, a better tire model, sharp handling, more historic cars, and real tracks.

Cheers for the honest and detailed review, as always. Lando Norris also criticized the brake bias in the game, so now we have an idea of what to expect. At least the handling/steering is fine, which gives me some hope for an enjoyable multiplayer experience.

nothing against you mate as i really do enjoy your videos, I wouldnt have a clue how to do it myself & would noway be good enough at the game, but it would be nice to be able to play it instead of having to sit & watch other people playing :(

Not buying F1 games without VR. I'll rather wait. I have my money over here. Reserved. Codemasters? Anyone want my money? It's 60 bucks right here. It's right here. Euros actually, so even more.

Could have done so much more, rubber on the track, debris etc, AI Bining it in practice qualy etc, story mode way deeper, full season of the f2 to lead in as an option, full press conference sometimes, so much more for a title that was in development for so long. Nice review mate 👌

It is the best review out there. F1 2020 will be released with no VR support as well.

I agree with majority that this game needs VR, scanned tracks, and much better tyre wear models. However ANYONE in the comments who hasn’t played and is complaining about no changes is so blind. I’ve been playing the past 8hrs straight both pad and wheel and I can tell you right now the handling and traction is beautiful compared to past games. Only thing I’d change is locking up as it does seem a bit over the top. Take my word I’ve driven shifter karts my whole life and the finest sims in the world. No I’m not an f1 driver, but this game is a great sim with some needed improvements

Another good review GM.
Summed up really well, with the most pertinent point being that it's cross platform, which means it's aimed at console players first, most of whom use a controller, not a steering wheel.
After all, that's where the money is!


Personally, I already own F1 2018 on both PC and PS4 Pro (my Thrustmaster T300, complete with Ferrari F1 rim! is compatible with both platforms) and I can honestly say that Codies made a decent fist of making this run and look so good on PS4 Pro. There's not much difference to pc to be honest.


The final question I'm asking myself is whether or not it's worth upgrading for the small incremental changes, or whether I should save my money for RDR2 on pc instead? (I already own this on PS4 but using a controller is a complete pain in the arse, lol) :))

I remember when Codemasters announced that they had obtained the exclusive license to F1, I was so excited. I stopped buying the games because they seemed to go the way of consoles and made the PC a port. The lack of VR these days is just another indicator of that. I think they are content with it being an arcade... lagging behind other titles. I imagine having to produce a game every year has also killed any meaningful long term progression and this title is getting left behind as a sim.
