The 1972 Andes Plane Crash was a harrowing disaster involving a Uruguayan Air Force Fairchild FH-227D aircraft that crashed into the Andes Mountains on October 13, 1972. The flight, carrying 45 passengers and crew, was en route from Montevideo to Santiago when it encountered severe weather and navigational errors, leading to a crash in a remote and treacherous area. The survivors, facing extreme cold, high altitudes, and dwindling supplies, endured harrowing conditions, resorting to cannibalism to stay alive. After 72 days of struggle, a daring rescue mission led to the survival of 16 individuals, whose ordeal remains a testament to human endurance and resilience.
