Some of this is misleading, Germany didn’t have a specific flag from 1806 to 1871 because Germany wasn’t unified under one government. Also, Germany used the imperial flag from 1871-1905, when they added an iron cross to it. Then they went back to the old imperial flag in 1906 and kept it around until 1919. At this point they used the modern German flag until 1933 when they began using the Nazi flag. Then in 1945 they began using the modern flag in British occupied West Germany and the communist flag in East Germany. With the Costa Rica looking flag being for US occupied Germany.

Likely unpopular opinion but I think Germany should bring back the flag of the German Empire, it's more nice to look at or should have kept the Swastika flag as the national flag, it just sticks out so well and looks more unique, though it was more of a symbol of the NSDAP than Germany and with modern political correctness they probably would of had to change it anyway.
