he's not bad, he just never grew and evolved his game.

I saw bro play at a high school showcase his senior year. Hes actually good. The issue is his height, and the fact he never learned how to play with 4 other dudes on the court. Every time he got the ball he ducked his head and tried to play Hero ball.
He cannot move without the ball.
When his teammates had the ball he would spread out he’d follow them around so they’d have to pass it back to him.
He just never learned how to play with fundamentals.

But. He’s got serious skills.

Why do people still make video essays about Julian Newman? this dude's been played out for the past 5 years. There's nothing new to learn about him.

when you don't have the physical trends, like lengthy, reach and all that, it really limits to what you can do at the next level.

He's 5 foot 2. He didn't even have a chance playing high school prep leagues

His height is not the issue. Aquille Carr is around his height and played college ball and overseas league. Julianne has great ball handling skills but doesn’t apply to create space and pass his defender. He relies too much on shooting 3’s which he is mediocre.

Years ago, I used to run a sports store and one of my teenage employees told me that Julian Newman is going to be a superstar in the NBA. I walked him over to the whiteboard and I wrote down Julian Newman– NBA – never.
I don’t work there anymore, but it’s still up there.

The ego and overdribbling definitely didn’t help him, but his lack of athleticism and overall size are the biggest factors. You can overcome the first two with the latter two to an extent. You can’t coach size, and you can only increase athleticism so much.

In 4th grade, my son began playing basketball. Despite being a terrible coach, one thing he said remains true today... Don’t worry about the kid beside you, just put in the effort and work hard. Regardless of the kid’s current skill level, things will change once everyone catches up. I share his perspective. When my son started playing high-level AAU, he showed promise and started occasionally. However, in high school, he excelled and became the top scorer for his school, a record that might still be unbroken today. They’ve been to district four times and come out on top twice.
At State, they came in second. The harmful effects outweigh the benefits when kids are labeled as phenoms. Among all the kids he played with and against, three of them reached the NBA, although they were simply playing basketball.
I wished LeBron took his own advise and let the kid just play.

It was not his height nor skills. His mindset was just not that trained properly.
Newman is the example of why you should manage expectations and protect your kid from flattery.

I don't get it. When you are the father and you are nowhere in the basketball height yourself and you train your kid in basketball??? I know there are some short players in the NBA but if we are being realistic that odd is very low and almost impossible. Newman would done so well had he played another sport like soccer where skills are over physical size.

If you ever watched the mighty ducks franchise in the 90’s, in the first two movies the ducks were never the most talented team, but they gained notoriety and succeed through gimmicks. However in the third movie where they became teenagers, the gimmicky play that they were known for was no longer effective and they had to learn how to play real hockey.

Julian’s game never evolved past the gimmicky style of basketball ball that got him noticed when he was a kid and the nepotism created by his father made him uncoachable.

Just seen him at the rec community center today in Las Vegas doing drills with his dad like he training for the league still lol . he wouldn’t run in a full court game with us though, had to push him off the court . No bs ..

He is definitely not a 5'7. I'm saying that and I'm 5'4.

I think his issue was that he never grew physically… and his game also never took that next step you know.. he never developed more and I think a big part of that was his dad.. i think he’d be better if he went into like basketball entertainment kind of like professor live type content.

Nba roster? He honestly would have trouble making a D3 roster. Anyone who has a slight understanding of basketball knows why he doesn’t make it. He’s to small and doesn’t have the athletic ability to make up for it. We don’t even need to talk about his defense. That’s all fine though, he can make a great living being a YouTube baller. No shame in it, but he ain’t a college prospect let alone NBA.

Dad was always the best father, but not the best basketball teacher.
