The world could really use two beautiful souls like Jim and Maury right now. They may be gone, but never forgotten.

I just checked and this was recorded 6 days before his death. This song was scheduled to be released the day after his passing.

Just when Jim Croce is finally making it in the music scene and at a blink of an eye He's gone.

How much talent was lost when the life of Jim Croce ended in this inexplicable way, this simple and humble man as shown by his final smile, when he finished performing this great song that has remained for posterity. Thank you Midnight Special for giving us this memory that I think must be the only one recorded so soon after the death of this great American folk rock music

Beautiful. Back when musicians had talent and could deliver a real live performance.

Being on the Midnight Special days before his death and before the official release of this 3:06 memorable ballad. I can remember when this song hit the airwaves. Truly special to have this in the Midnight Special archives.
Thank you for memorializing the great Jim Croce.

Oh man did I love and still love this Jim Croce song, it takes me back to 1972 or 73 sitting in my parents kitchen age 16 or 17, talking to my father about the Marquette Warriors basketball team, sad to say daddy would die in three years of a heart attack, I was the oldest of us five kids that still lived at home the five older than me had left the nest through marriage, the sister right above me was in college in northern Wisconsin and one brother coming home from serving in Nam, man do I miss those days.

I love Jim Croce. My mom liked him a lot. His music reminds me of being a kid riding with her in her 1975 Cutlass Supreme listening to a Jim Croce 8 track tape and singing as rolled on down the road.

Absolutely brilliant. I never get tired of this song., or of Jim and his music. After more than 50 years, this is still magnificent.

It's crazy how much you can miss a man you never knew, who passed decades before you were born. There's just something you can't explain with Jim Croce, a simple man, a loving man, a talented musician, but mostly, a pure soul.

I saw him shortly before he died in Nashville when he opened on a bill that included the (original lineup) Doobie Brothers and Loggins and Messina. THOSE were the days.

Such a haunting video. 6 days before his plane crashed. His song Bad Bad Leroy Brown was constantly played on Top 40 radio that summer.

One of my very favorite performers! I was devastated when I heard the news of his passing. We all suffered a great loss that September day in 1973, such a personable man overflowing with talent who had a destiny none of us were prepared for. He continues to live on in media and in our hearts, RIP Jim.

September 1973 was a cruel month. Just one day before Jim and Maury died, Gram Parsons was taken from us. Tough month.
