Yep, still happy with my 2021 M1 Max MacBook Pro.

Gorgeous display, great speakers, amazing battery life, and all the power I need - and it really was no more expensive than my 2019 Intel based MacBook Pro.

If I'd known I was going to keep it this long I'd have gotten it with a 4 TB SSD (instead of 2 TB).

We'll see if M3 with 3nm tempts me - maybe they'll get hardware ray tracing efficient enough and maybe some game developers will be willing to redo their graphics pipelines from the ground up for TBDR and put some AAA games on the platform - but as things stand Apple seems to have broken the endless upgrade cycle.

The M3 will be based on 3nm so is expected to be a major upgrade. Figures leaked suggest 35% greater efficiency, which translates to similar better performance if the chips can handle it. But, as you say, even with 33% more Screen on time and 20% better performance, the M1 and M2’s are beasts already for non-pros or semi-pros, even pros like yourself. OLED is not due until the M4 so other “added value” may not be significant. I will envy the M3 MB Pro 14 but I doubt I will be able to justify an upgrade from my M1. Cheers!

I'm with ya, mate! Currently considering the ThinkPad Z16 and the XPS 9530 (2023), only to game a little on. It's a pity, too, because I have absolutely no desire to upgrade my 16" M1 Pro, which is simply awesome. If gaming developers started to significantly build for the MacBook, the thought to complement my M1 Pro with a Windows-based laptop wouldn't even cross my mind.

2022 G14 Ryzen 9 6700s is pretty good too. Especially for $999.00 at night it has the vintage Mac color vibe.

I've been through the rings and many different laptop tested

Rog Zephyrus G14 is excellent

Yep, 100%. Like you, I had a string of XPS’s since 2010 and a 2015 MacBook Pro. Held out u til the M1 MBP was launched and ordered the 16” on the first day. Delighted with it. Certainly never buying another Dell after terrible build and support issues over the last few years. Can’t see myself upgrading until Apple are well into 3nm and microLED etc.

I agree. As a long-time gaming laptop enthusiast, Apple has killed my interest in non-Macs. My GE67HX with it's beautiful 240hz OLED hardly ever gets switched on.

I see you refer to the 14 in your title but show images of the 16 throughout?
I actually have a M1 Pro 14" (Base) and M1 Max 16"... love them both, but putting the 16" up for sale. The 14" Base model is just such incredible value.

You will have to upgrade as the main reason for upgrading is mainly from a software perspective it gets less and less optimized over the years and heavier and heavier to run which basically makes the computer feel slower when it's not

Like you, after I have a computer that allows me to focus on the content of the video content that I’m editing rather than being concerned about whether I’m running the fans too hard on a computer, then I’m good to go and I need to focus my energy upon creating good video content rather than being concerned that I’m about to melt my computer. If the computer lags when editing, thus making the editing process unnecessarily painful, or if I’m using a different camera or a different codec strictly due to computer limitations, that is when there is a problem. If I had a 15 year old computer that could fly when editing whereby the computer is transparent in the editing process, then I wouldn’t care how old the computer was. You provide an excellent strategic view of using computer as a tool to meet a specific need, and not spending unnecessary time, energy and money on a problem for which you already have a solution. 👍

Just a small question are you using only one computer and it is a MBP or something else?! Can you share what your are using or maybe make a movie about it?!

I agree mate. Apple's machines are just so overwhelmingly passed all the laptops currently. I'm not a crazy gamer. I want a machine that has good quality control, good screen, good keyboard, io, battery list, and power. That's it. Not only does apple meet those requirements, it's literally top of the market for those features. I'd be happy with a windows laptop that had decent power, battery, and screen. But apple has all those and more. And for the same money if I go with windows, I'll be settling for a mediocre machine. I don't like MacOS at all. But at this point, I have no choice.

Sadly you cannot upgrade the components, and Apple is noctorious for forcing you to replace bigger chunk of parts, should something small a small item in the laptop break.
I don't think you are doing anyone any favor by recommending Apple laptops.
