Elite Dangerous Odyssey - Space Legs Arrives in 2021 and Base Building Suggested?!

What's this?! Elite Dangerous is getting off of life support? Space Legs arrive in 2021 along with some FPS action? Planets completely re-textured with atmospheres?! Rumors of base building?!

If nothing else happens Star Citizen has motivated many game developers to start making the changes that the players wanted.

The thing with SC and E:D is that both games try to achieve a similar experience, but are approaching it differently:

E:D is doing things one step at a time. They first did the space portion, then introduced driving around on planets with no atmosphere in Horizons, and now, with Odyssey, they will add "Space Legs" with FPS elements and barren planets with atmospheres. My guess: Next step will be planets with complex atmospheres, including weather and stuff.

SC on the other hand wants to achieve all of the above all at once in one big swoop.

Both approaches have their own (dis-)advantages. E:D was able to actually get released this way already, if only with just the space-flight portion, but progress to the next stage is a slow one.
SC on the other hand will have the full experience once it finally gets officially released, but oh boy, that will still take a time.

Expect that once both approaches reach the finish line the two will actually look and feel very similar.

At leasts that's my opinion.

Will they be able to make it good to walk around on all those planets and moons?
Can they create interiors to all of the ships without conflict with the exterior hulls?
Many questions...
Maybe this will get SC to start evolve a bit quicker, though. ;)

I still want to see what the "Instancing" is for FDev. Will they treat Space legs like NMS, limited to 8 players in an instance?? What other assets will be involved?? I really want to come back to Elite, but I've been burned many times, I'll just sit back and wait until Q3 2021. If it's good, then we'll have Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous & Dual Universe. Amazing! Good day to be a space sim fan. o7

Most people used to just alt-f4 when you bring them together for combat though, and switch back and forth to solo mode on the same character.

This is going to kick SC in the arse and get them to push them forward in the right direction.

This looks very nice and it looks like FD is trying to finally make a good game out of ED. Best part on this: Star Citizen gets an actual real competitor with this, which should make them hurry up.

Once space legs come out for ED i'll give it another shot. Always found ED kinda boring, it just feels like it's got no soul to it. But this could be a game changer

Hopefully the option of both FPS and TPS. Otherwise it'll be disappointing that they go the route of CoD and show third person visuals and only offer FPP.

Looks nice on first sight... On second I think they got a long way to go still. Notice how they convinientley have a perfect surface where the guys walk. That makes me think that what we see is a skin without proper "collision control" meaning if you walk in uneaven terrain it could be a clipping fest.
But anyway. It's good if someone keeps the pressure up on cig to deliver.
