5 Ways to Tie a Tie Knot.

In this video, I show you 5 ways to tie a tie knot.

Three of these knots - the Four In Hand, the Victoria, and the Prince Albert, are asymmetrical and considered to be informal knots, whilst the Half Windsor and the Full Windsor are symmetrical and considered to be formal knots.

I also talk you through the different types of shirt collars, and explain why the different tie knots suit different collars.

We explore the different styles of ties, both in colour and material, and touch on why we might choose a certain style of tie to wear with a particular shirt or jacket. The etiquette regarding club, association and regimental ties is also discussed.

Then we move onto the tie knots themselves, how to tie them, what we are looking for in the finished knot and to what length the tie should ideally fall.

I talk about the use of a tie pin or clip and also consider how wearing a tie might differ for a gentleman of slightly larger proportions.

The video concludes with a look at what tie might be right for you, and encouragement to try a different knot or to start wearing a tie.

We hope you enjoy the video. If you do, please feel free to forward it and recommend it to friends or family members who you feel might benefit from its content.

Thank you for demystifying the "Prince Albert" knot: the most elegant of the five in my opinion.

My father taught me the Full Windsor when I was a little boy. I use de Four in Hand. Always in pursuit of the perfect dimple. Never achieved it. Wonderful video!

Great video, my personal favorite is the full Windsor but can’t go wrong with any of them!

You should do a tie collection video if you haven’t already would love to see some of those unique colors and patterns.
Thanks for the video, Cheers 🥂

A foundational video to understand matching collar to tie. The most useful one I've seen. Easy to follow instructions on each knot to tie. I'm impressed with the tips this video offers as well. Excellent!

Great vid. Finally, someone explaining the relationship between the shirt collar and the tie!. Now shopping for garments and accessories, & let's not forget the jacket, I can use my existing wardrobe effectively and know how to add to it. Too bad my local shops and tailors can not explain something so simple. I now have so many more dress options even with my existing wardrobe that future shopping will be a pleasure rather than a disappointing chore

Very nice and informative. I actually learned to tie a full Windsor knot in Marine Corps boot camp and it was the only knot I used for many years. Recently I've been experimenting with other knots and I happen to be wearing the four in hand knot while watching this.

The Half Windsor!
I wore a tie to work for 30+ years. I always tied the Four in Hand, even for social events where a tie was expected.
I really like the Half Windsor now. That'll be my go to, from here on in.
Thanks for the info!

The half Windsor is the man for all seasons, but 4 in hand is great for the relaxed look with a tweed jacket on the weekend, when we are all trying to look like off-duty Spitfire pilots! Great video 👍

Thank you for sharing your knowledge sir. I had no idea there were numerous ways to tie a necktie, although I had noticed some knots appeared more professional.

My favourite knot when suited to the shirt is the full windsor, and the result on the half windsor demo' looked stunning.
Thanks very much and take care. David.

Videos like these are good memory refreshers. Went to a funeral yesterday and this video refreshed me, where i don't wear suits very much.

Nice dissertation. My preference is confirmed as the full Windsor, despite the collar. Oh thanks about the advice on the tie pin, bar and length. you wear ties like a gentleman, and I applaud you sir.
