matthieu(black haired) is the most promising young violin and virtuoso-to-be as of now, winning many violin competitions for years— despite having less talent and is instead built from gruelling hard work only since childhood, in contrary to how he appears as a prodigy. That is until he turned 16, and young talent alfons(red-haired) suddenly appears and threatens to take his place.

soon, alfons will turn 15 and become eligible to compete in the senior category against matthieu. he has one last chance to prove that his hard work can win over talent, until he is eventually replaced.

I play the violin myself as well, and I repeat: no matter how hard you try, a child prodigy will be better than you.

THE ART STYLE! THE PROPER HOLDING OF THE INSTRUMENT! THIS IS A MASTERPIECE.

my god this hits me where it hurts, spent years playing my instrument and practicing it daily but... it wasn't enough. The spotlight was always given to the same person and I never got my shot. I don't play anymore, it no longer brings me joy and I'd rather do something I can be appreciated for.

as a violinist myself, this is the reality of competitions --
and no matter how hard you work, it's always the person with talent, hard work, and love for the violin who will win

Im baffled how you could capture perfectly the anguish and stress that matthieu is going through in just 10 seconds. *cheff kiss*

I love this so much! You can really feel the "main character tension" energy. 😁

i basically grew up playing the violin. for 9 years of my life that is all i did, until the end of middle school when i faced a burn out for the first time. i was always called a prodigy, everyone around me always told me i’m so talented and i should never give up on the violin. what other kids achieved through hard work, i could manage much more easily. i think that’s the reason why when things got hard as i grew up and i eventually *had* to start practicing more in order to do harder pieces, i started to want to give up. i didn’t know how to work hard. i went to my violin lessons unprepared and cried out of guilt every single time. the only thing i regret even now is that none of the adults in my life back then told me what a burn out is, and that it passes with time.. they just let me transfer schools and give up on the violin forever. now i can never go back. it’s been 8 years, and my violin is collecting dust in the corner of my room. i will not shine the way i used to 8 years ago ever again in my life.

This was one of the biggest lessons I had to learn in my life and I'm so glad I was able to learn it sooner rather than later: No matter how fast your run, there will always be someone at the finish line before you start. No matter how smart you are, there's always someone with better test scores or higher grades. No matter how well you play, you can't win every competition. As soon as this idea fully sets in, you can stop comparing yourself to others and focus on your own journey. If I didn't realize this as soon as I did, I don't think I would have stuck with playing piano up until today.

i’m a painter. no matter how many hours spent drenched in paint, working on a project with aching fingers and arms, a child prodigy was ALWAYS better.

I just read the description and wow. I immediately imagined the story and a scene rushed into my head. How amazing. Although, am I allowed to imagine that they'll eventually fall for each other? Coz why not tbh. Enemies to lovers are the best w/ a spice of angst.

No matter how hard you try on AP classes there is one “I love math” guy who will take the stage from your hands.

Read a post somewhere about how humans went from doing things for their love of doing it, to them feeling validated only after they've achieved something at it against other humans. Think this video definitely gives the same vibe. Remember guys it's not a burden, rather an opportunity. Enjoy the process.
