Worked for 50 years on paper machines starting in 1963. 1st machine was machine #4, a Pusey Jones of 1896, 95 in. width, and a speed of maybe 375 f.p.m. Second machine I worked on from 1966 to 1971 was machine #6, a Rice Barton of 1927, 167 in. width with a speed of 670 f.p.m. Last machine I retired from was of 1980 machine #7 a Beloit of 180 in. width that had an an on machine coater along with super calendaring. It had a speed of 2450 f.p.m. When I started at the mill in 1963 there were 6 paper machines running. When I retired in 2009 there were just 2 machines left running. We made many grades of paper some were, poly vinyl alcohol coated Release paper, carbonless coated front and coated back, blue print paper, matte grade liquid latex, liquid ultra bright clay coated, and 15 lb. bible paper where we could wind my machine up to 2450 f.p.m.

Whatever happened to the old machines 1 and 3? The 1920s ones that were there as late as 1975. And is the 1960s machine no 2 that was installed with the old machine no 4 still in use?
