So if you file a provisional patent application, don’t forget that a provisional patent application only lasts one year and automatically expires at the end of the year and this term cannot be extended. To ultimately get an enforceable patent, you need to file a non-provisional application that claims priority to the provisional before the provisional expires at the end of the year.

Correct me if I’m wrong but if I filed a provisional patent this would be a good idea to protect my idea ahead of time if others know about it? Because I wouldn’t have to show proof of sales etc until I filed a non provisional right?
