This advice right here is much bigger than it looks. You are learning how to practice, create feedback loops, systems, and learn how to use motivation and discipline to turn something into a passion with time.

"It is far better to become something than to remain anything but become nothing." That's the crossroads that many people face when they finish high school. So many different options but it's hard to pick a direction and stick with it because you're constantly wondering if you made the right choice.

Ever since I was little I liked to sew. My mom would pre cut things for me to put together. Eventually, I wanted to do the cutting and that meant learning about fabrics and pattern design. Textiles, math, construction, etc. That led to upholstery and furniture design and construction. All because I liked to sew and it's still my first love.
Do something! You don't know where it will lead!

In 2015, I got "volunteered" to teach yoga (while I was only _good_ at the asanas of yoga). I had to overcome people looking at me, speaking in front of people, keeping my voice loud enough (confidence) for the class to hear me, expressing kindness towards one's body (while still being critical of my own) and etc. It's been a few years now and now I'm a Yoga RYT-500 and feel like I may be good at teaching Yoga.

I’m glad Jordan somewhat approves of video games and the skill/dedication it takes, it’s a good step to finding something more real that you might be good at or want to do

I earned a black belt in my 30s, it saved my life literally after I lost the dearest person to me to suicide at 26.

When we are “good” at something, it contributes to our self esteem and value. It helps move us toward independence, self-sustainability, and purpose.

No matter what hole you're in, always have something that you're working on or learning etc, even if it's just 10 minutes a day. If you do ever find a way to the other side, then at least you'll have something you can hold on to.

This reminds me of how video games helped me; a kid who couldn't write his own name at school without the teacher asking "what does that say", gain a sense of self worth and achievement. School never gave me that, I just wasn't built for it.

But through playing video games I learned a lot more than just playing games. I learned basic history from historical strategy games, I improved my hand-eye coordination immensely, I learned how to build and fix computers just so I could keep playing my games... I learned so much just from being able to invest time in what I enjoyed. More than school ever taught me.

I'd go as far to say, video games are directly responsible for my eventual success in university, a place no teacher of mine ever believed I'd go.

It's a good lesson. To master something, you need to learn to keep going despite facing failure which is the most important thing in life, you will learn many other things too.
